Character Information
Name: 5 (Fife Nairn)
Canon Origin/Series: 9
School Year: Fifth
Gender: Male
Age: 15
Out of school living location: Ferguslie Park in Paisley, Renfrewshire, Scotland
Blood status: Pureblood

Personality: 5 starts out as a rule-follower; nervous and fearful. However, his loyalty to those he cares about overcomes that quickly; though he remains anxious and scared, he faces his fears to help his friends. In fact, sometimes he gets so caught up in this that he does what he accuses 2 and 9 of; he "forget[s] to remember to be scared". (This is shown when he runs after the map, though he quickly bounces back to being afraid after.).

5 is shown, particularly with 2, to be a very loving, sweet soul, with an attachment to 2 that is fairly ambiguous and could be seen as friendly, romantic, or even a son-to-father bond. Regardless of the exact nature, he cares for him quite deeply; he comes to care for 9 quite a bit as well and is clearly very happy to see 7, 3, and 4 again. On the other hand, he is seemingly willing to leave 7 behind when The Machine seems to have her, speaking once again to his cowardice, even if this leaving people behind habit is one he seems to eventually break.

5 is shown to be, like most of the nine, highly intelligent, resourceful, and creative. It is implied he made a number of things working with 2, and he fixes 9 up after a scuffle. He's also very emotional; in hysterics with 9 after 2's soul is taken. (Although, considering what happened, it's quite understandable.)

Also notable is that 5 is more or less fine with having one eye. He says it helps him focus on a single thing at a time.

Canon Background: 5 was the fifth creation of the scientist; a burlap doll that housed one-ninth of his creator's soul. He came into a world where humans and machines were at war, and 5 lost one of his eyes when he was separated from the group and ended up in the crossfire between human and robot. 2 saved him, (and 7 saved them both, in turn), and presumably fixed him up. 5 was mentored by 2; both creative, inventive minds. 5 entered the film itself after 9 and 2 have a run in with what 1 called "The Beast"; a robotic danger. 5 fixed 9 up, and was both deeply worried about 2 and highly protective of 9 over the course of events that followed. He and 9 went to find 2, and eventually found him... Only for 2 to be lost very soon after, his bit of soul stolen away by The Machine, which 9 awakened. However, it is evident from their mere moment or so together that the two are quite close. Just before that, though, the three were reunited with 7, and after, 7 took them back to 3 and 4. Reunited, the group realized that the object used to awaken The Machine was the same design that 6 always drew, so 5 and 9 went back to 1 and 8. They were caught there, but before 1 could do much to them, the Winged Beast attack. 5, 9, 1, 8, and 6 escaped the creature, and eventually 7 led them back to her, 3, and 4's hideout. Eventually, saving 1 and 8 from The Seamstress lead to the recovery of 2's body, and most of the group held a touching and simple send off for his lost comrade. After that, they went to find 8 and the newly-captured 7, 1 having been saved. 5 was told to lead a team to destroy The Seamstress if needed, and he was prepared to do just that. Once 9 and 7 -- 8 was lost -- were safe, 5's plan was set in motion; an attempt to blow up The Machine. Shortly after the remaining dolls were enjoying their togetherness, believing that they were safe, The Machine returned and 5 was lost. Later, when all of the lost dolls' bits of soul were set free, 5's spirit was among them.

Background (AU!Canon; HP): In 1996, Sheena and Douglas Nairn gave birth to a baby boy they named Fife. The family lived in the slums of Ferguslie Park, but they got along well enough. Fife's parents loved him dearly, and perhaps coddled the boy a bit too much, leaving him on the cowardly side. However, Fife also showed early promise in areas of intellectual and creative thinking. Fife's parents were a witch and wizard who had attended Hogwarts, so Fife's letter the summer before he turned eleven was no surprise. Fife went through Hogwarts well enough, shy and awkward, but making friends when there was chemistry. It wasn't until the summer before his fourth year that disaster struck. The area where the Nairns lived was highly populated by wizards and witches of the "lower blood class", so to speak... Halfbloods. The worst thing possible happened... Lord Voldemort attacked their neighborhood that summer, and while the Nairns barely escaped with their lives -- Fife lost sight in one eye -- but many others were not so lucky, and the attack left their little bit of the world in ruins. Still, they couldn't afford a new home. Sheena and Douglas decided to rebuild as best they could while Fife went back to the school, where he'd be safe. The home is still being rebuilt, and Fife is still trying to learn to cope. A fifth year, Fife is taking and doing well in all required classes, save for Defense Against the Dark Arts, where he struggles. In addition, he takes ancient ruins and studies and arithmancy

How would your character fit in to each House?
Gryffindor: In my opinion, 5 falls just short of being a Gryffindor. While he's almost Neville-ish: Nervous but loyal and brave when it comes to his friends... The fact that he is fine with repeatedly leaving others, even if it is sometimes at their orders, to die... It just isn't true bravery, far less chivalry. However, he does get over this. He also lacks nerve, as shown by his following 1's orders for so long.

Hufflepuff: This could work really, really well. To 2, 5 is endlessly and completely loyal, and he is still quite loyal to the others, as well, though not completely at first. (See the above 'leaving people to die' thing.) Still, he cares for others deeply. He's very hard-working, be it fixing 9 or saving 2. He's also very friendly, as shown by the fast and strong bond he makes with 9, for one.

Ravenclaw: Another good fit. 5's inventing and fixing skills show him to be intelligent and creative, as does his plan to destory The Seamstress; while building anything in a post-apocalyptic wasteland speaks to resourcefulness. Focusing on his work is important to him, as well.

Slytherin: Perhaps not the best fit. Though he's a pureblood, 5 doesn't have any particular moments of being cunning or ambitious. He's also not entirely achievement-oriented; even when looking to save 2 he has moments of wanting to go back to safety. He's also far more of a follower than a leader.

Sample Journal Entry:

Hi, guys. I

I haven't really written yet this year, have I?

I don't know how many of you know what happened...

I'm fine. In case anyone was worried. If you were... That was kind of you. But I am fine.

Or I will be.

Sample Interaction Post in Third Person:
Fife closed his journal and gave a sigh, curling up on his dormitory bed.

He didn't know how to feel. He'd been in hysterics at first, traumatized, but the rest of the summer had gone by... And now he was a bit numb. Unsure.

Scared, though. Especially for his parents.

He tried to think of the friends he still had, the ones at school. Specifically, the ones he admired and respected the most. Would they be scared? He wasn't sure anyone could help being scared after being through what he'd been through...

But the people he was thinking about... They'd be brave, too. They'd pick up and move on and, most importantly, make sure nothing like what had happened would ever happen again. But how...

And then the idea struck, and Fife nodded to himself, feeling certain of something for the first time in months.

He was going to study even harder, do as well as possible on his homework, and get good grades on his OWLs, and in the future, on his NEWTs.

He was also going to join Pre-Auror Training next year.

Fife wasn't entirely sure he could go through with it, but in this moment... He just wanted to be brave. And more so, he wanted to keep the people he cared about safe.

He wanted to fix things.
