I Got a Date With the Night - [James and Tina]

It had been awhile since Jim had gone on a date. This was mostly because "dating," as a concept, was more or less foreign to the brutal, want-take-have (without exposing yourself to your superiors before you could kill them) culture of Starfleet where he was from, rather than a function of having been out of the dating pool for awhile and getting over a nasty separation. Though that was more or less true, from a certain point of view.

That did not mean he was incapable of being charming, romantic in a certain sense, when he had to be. Though the feelings Tina aroused in him were maddening, confusing, and arousing by turns, he was not unfamiliar with the ways in which men made themselves attractive to women. It had been awhile since he'd had to use any that didn't consisted of knocking them up against the nearest wall or threatening to demote them, but he wasn't entirely stupid.

The lounge, one of the smaller dining places aboard, was still quite public, but it would provide some measure of quiet as well sa serve to allay any suspicions about his designs on Tina. He'd procured a tablecloth, a few candles, and a covered tray with a few steaks and all the rest. Replicated, sadly, but he'd gotten a girl in the galley to trim everything up with a few real effects. (She'd enjoyed being knocked against the wall, but he'd only tried it after getting the fairly clear signal of her hand on his ass.) He wore a soft, deep-green sweater (ties were old-fashioned, at this point) and a single red rose stood in a slim vase in front of Tina's place.

Jim had stopped asking himself why he wanted what he did. Introspection was not his forte. He wanted Tina. And not just as a quick fuck, though he harbored some lingering hope that, having gotten that, he'd be cured. Still. He wanted what he wanted. He had been patient in the past.

just a silly phase i'm going through, !nuchapel, new enterprise
