I went fishing on Lake Michigan with my stepmom today. It was fun. Got there at 5:30-ish. And whoa.... did the fish bite. We caught our limit.... five king salmon and what we believe is a lake trout.
I just liked this picture.
Fish on!!!!
I look like poopy, but here is the big one. This motherfucker is 21 lbs, and what I would say is about 2.5 feet long. We used a special rig that extended 100 yards out. So yes.... it took both my stepmom and I taking turns reeling it in. And 21 lbs, and then tack on the weight of the line, which was rather heavy, with the drag of the water, the fish fighting back, and water currents..... it proved to be quite a battle! But it was all worth it. We almost lost it, because it was too heavy to fit in the net the first attempt to get it out, and it ran into the motor. Luckily, that just stunned it, which worked to our advantage.
Me and our fishies!
See how big that big one is!
Yeah, there was one point that almost turned into a disaster. There's a rig that my stepmom was using... lead-something... basically, it's this orange, block-like thing that attaches to the fishing line and floats on top of the water. It allows the lure to swim sideways, away from the boat. That's the 100 yard thing I mentioned above. Anyway.... some stupid ass boat decided to come insanely close to us, and the line got caught in something of his. So he was dragging the line with him as we trolled. My stepmom tried flagging him down. The only thing to do was to stop the motor, put it in reverse, and chase after the guy... because the rig and line is kind of expensive. Anyway, as we're trying to reel in the other lines, two of them get tangled, and a fish bites on the one my stepmom had as she was reeling it in. It was pandemonium.... trying to maneuver between twisted fishing lines, the line that was caught on the boat, and trying to actually catch the fish that bit. Luckily.... the lure broke off, saving the expensive line and rig; the fishing poles became untangled; and we caught the fish. Very funny in retrospect.
So yes. I had a blast!
Though a little sunburnt. :O(
And I swear the music choice was a complete coincidence!
