My town was on national news and I missed the whole thing!

Some of you may have heard about the storms that hit northern Illinois on Thursday--Meryl Marie heard about it on NBC news and called on Saturday, bless her heart!   My parents heard about us on the Weather Channel (what can I say, they're elderly Americans so of COURSE it's their favorite station ;-D )

The town where I live was 'ground zero' for  ( Read more... )

Man, I'd heard about the storms "in Chicago", but didn't realize your town was ground zero! Glad you made it off relatively unscathed, although 3 days without electricity couldn't have been fun. Yay for super duper battery on backup sump pump!

It's really great to hear how your neighbors all banded together to get through this. It's sad that sometimes it takes adversity to make us band together, but it's nice that it brought out the best in folks.

Has this affected the big remodel? Hope not.

Take care.

Ah, the remodel continues. We got power back in time for the kitchen floor to be installed Monday. Which was another drama, but it's all good!

Sporkie, your icon!!! Have you seen 'Becoming Jane'? An over-the-top (at least the last half hour) fictionalized account of Ms. Austen's early path to becoming a novelist. Kind of a melodramatic version of a Jane Austen novel. Quite enjoyable! :-D

What a weird weather pattern THAT was! Reminded me of that storm that blew down all those trees in France a few years back. A mini-hurricane of sorts. Definitely not a tornado, as the wind blew straight in one direction. And the rain...OMG!

After a frantic week, I've got time to catch up with LJ. Glad to hear that all is well, for you, if not for the trees. :( I'm in a "moderate risk of flood" area, but it's the sea I have to worry about. It's always good how people pull together in a crisis.

Oh boy, the awesome power of water! Even on the Great Lakes, the storms can come up with frightening speed and intensity.

No wonder the Weather Channel is so popular. ;-D
