Name: Hawke Starfyr
Age/birthdate: 21 years/ October 31, 1988
Sex: Male
Species: Human
Appearance: Height: 6' 2" (188 cm) Weight: 210 lb (95 kg)
His heritage is caucasian with blond hair and grey eyes. He has an athletic build that is attributed more towards a surfer or soccer player than a football player or body builder. Hawke's skin is tanned and there are faint scars resembling scratches and bite marks that are localized on his thighs, arms, shoulders and chest. (His rear too, if you see it!) Brighter, more defined scars from sharp instruments are on the insides of his wrists that are sometimes wrapped in leather bands. A thin spiral tattoo resides over his left pec, marking him as a member of the Faunlyn. Hawke's hair reaches to the middle of his back and is normally tied back with a thin leather cord.
The clothing style Hawke wears is more akin to Native Americans or Hawaiians, if anything at all. His preferred dress is a waist cloth that is similar to a sarong. The hem usually reaches below his knees and above his ankles with a split on either side of his legs. The belt portion of the sarong contains a clasp for ease of removal as well as adornment. It also contains a series of small pouches and loops to hold trinkets or small weapons. A string of beads is woven into his hair by the nape of his neck so it's normally hidden from view. Around his throat is a small pouch containing a lock of multicolored hair and several colored scales about the size of quarters.
PB: Travis Fimmel
Personality:
Due to his upbringing, Hawke is a very kind an polite person. He is eager to help others and won't hesitate to help someone in need. He's driven to protect the weak and innocent. Even though Hawke is human and knows English, his words and concepts of reality are geared more towards Faunlyn thoughts. When he does speak, it's with an accent resembling a Russian accent with a penchant to roll his r's and add stresses to syllables that normally wouldn't be stressed in English.
Hawke has the uncanny ability to read body language and nine times out of ten can tell when someone is speaking and untruth or is trying to hide information from him. His strength is reading the body language of humans and Faunlyn. If he's not familiar with another species, he won't be able to read their body language easily until he learns their mannerisms. While he is fluent in body language and the spoken language of the Faunlyn, he can easily miss many slang terms and only has a first or second grade reading comprehension in English.
Hawke is quiet, extremely insightful and does his best to learn about all sided of a situation before making a final decision. His speech and mannerisms are more direct and literal than most humans. Though he is prone to fits of excitability and teenage rebellion, he is more of an adult than most teenagers his age. Brutally honest to a fault, Hawke is not bound by prejudice, jealousy or bodily shame. He hates to wear confining human clothing and will prefer light airy clothing or none at all. Hawke will wear clothes to keep warm or protect himself from the elements, but if he is indoors, he will prefer a waist cloth and nothing else.
He can have a very strong and protective streak if he or any person he considers a friend or family is threatened by danger. If someone is ill, he will be adamant that they rest and seek the assistance of a healer, especially if it is something he cannot easily deal with. This behavior developed because his adoptive mother is a healer. This behavior can be mistaken as overbearing, intimidating and almost aggressive. Hawke acts this way out of concern, and if it's pointed out that he may be causing more distress, he will immediately back off and be extremely apologetic.
Hawke has been raised by a people who view the body not as a thing of shame or something that should be sexualized, but something that is as common as rocks, trees, or water. Breasts are used to feed young and bodily functions are not disgusting, but common and natural. While many concepts that humans consider as 'disgusting' are normal and not hidden, privacy is honored in society. For Hawke, physical connection is very important to him. The Faunlyn have close connections with each other to the point where anyone is observed as a loner, they are deemed unwell and sick. Even though Hawke is a human, he will keep this main personality trait and try to keep close to others he trusts. To people he's comfortable with, he will try to keep as much physical contact with them, even if it's just touching their arm or shoulder or side and may even be bold enough to nuzzle or cuddle with them if they seem receptive to it. Even though he has a 'free love' and casual view about sex, he would be very cautious about forming any sexual ties in a new place because humans tend to be jealous and possessive about their sexual partners.
When faced with being in an environment he's not familiar with, he may act extremely defensive and act like caged animal. While he will not lie outright, he may be uncooperative in answering questions, especially questions regarding the Faunlyn and his powers. Hawke is an adaptable person and will acclimate himself in order to survive, but he will hold onto the belief that the dream walkers of his people will find his spirit and bring him home.
Character History:
When he was a toddler, his mother asked one of the Fuanlyn guards, Shai, to keep him safe and train him to be a strong and kind man. The boy had a type of magic that she was unable to help Hawke harness and felt that it was best for the Faunlyn to train him so that he wouldn't grow to be a ruthless killer as his biological father had been. From the time he was eight years old, Hawke has lived with the Faunlyn. Over time, he learned the history, language, customs and magic of this secretive, non human people and eventually passed their tests of manhood to become an accepted member of the Faunlyn.
From the day he came to live with them, he's been taught a type of magic known as 'BloodSpeaking.' In human terms, the skill would be called blood magic. The magic not only allows the wielder to control his blood, but the blood of others. Since Hawke is only an apprentice he is not considered a proficient user by Faunlyn standards, but may be considered very powerful by human standards.
At age fifteen, Hawke passed the tests to become a man and a member of society. Part of those rites included taking on a first lover. This ceremony is very important in Faunlyn society, and is the closest thing they have in terms of marriage. He now resides in the home of his First, even though he moves freely between his First's home and that of his teacher's. He also has several lovers in the mountain, and there is no jealousy between them.
World History:
Atlean: This is the name of the world that Hawke currently reside in. (His native world is Earth, but hasn't been there for over a decade.) Atlean is a world similar to Earth with less technological advances and high magical activity. There was no Industrial Age and communities are much like fiefdoms in the Middle Ages. Humans have one capital city called Arrill. This city houses the most powerful wizards and is a learning facility for any who wish to become a mage.
Arrill is also the city where dragons normally interact with humans. Legend has it that the dragons taught humans magic when all of the other magical races refused to do so. Because of this bond, the governmental heads of humans and dragons work together often.
Another group of magical beings are the Faunlyn. Humans usually call them Kirin. They look nothing like a horse or deer, but more like a very tall Satyr with long horns and a prehensile tail. They look very much like the
Faun in Pan's Labyrinth, only a Faunlyn has scales covering most of their bodies. They have four clawed fingers on each hand and despite their odd appearance, Faunlyn are excellent climbers and runners.
Faunlyn are known to be the embodiements of the six main elements of Atlean: Earth, Wind, Fire, Water, Light and Shadow. The color of their scales indicate which element they control and every Faunlyn has an innate ability to control that element. When a Faunlyn becomes an adult, they may continue to master their element or branch off into other magics such as BloodSpeaking, SpiritWalking or SongSpinning.
They are a secretive people and prefer to remain in their mountain homes. The Mountain is a self-sustaining community within a hollowed out mountain. Faunlyn rely upon each other for warmth, comfort and safety. The worst punishment they can give to a criminal is seclusion. If a Faunlyn is left in seclusion for too long, they will go mad. For them, solitude equals illness, madness, and eventually death.
While Faunlyn have a spoken and written language, the majority of their communication is done through body language and hand, ear, and tail signals. Since most of their communication lies on the body, one Faunlyn cannot lie to another. While the Faunly are a secretive and private people, they will not hide truths or avoid confrontation. They will not deny who they are, and the closest they will come to lying is refusing to speak at all.
Faunlyn society regards women and children very highly. Without females, there would be no children, and without children, there would be no Faunlyn. While they are very long lived, they do not reproduce often. Essentially, they are a dying race. These values are strongly imprinted on the community's younger generation. When a child becomes an adult, there is a ceremony where they take on a first lover and are accepted as a functioning member of the community.
Their most important belief is that the greatest gift is love holds true in every Faunlyn's heart. Love can never be diminished or lessened with how many share it. The more love that can be given, the more that can be received and the more one can give again. It is a renewable gift that only makes one stronger for it.
Abilities:
Hawke is naturally very strong and graceful, but not beyond human capabilities.
His magical ability is BloodSpeaking, which gives him the ability to control his blood and control the blood of others.
BloodShield:
Hawke can use his blood or the blood of others to coat himself. When the blood is upon his skin, it writhes around in an 'undirected' state. By his own will, the blood can gather and form a shield on his whole person or a certain section of his person to deflect blows and attacks. This ability lasts as long as the blood is flowing.
BloodWhip:
From a wound on his body, Hawke can call out a rope of blood and use it like a lasso. With this, he can tie others or knock them off their feet. The blood is effective as long as it's flowing as he has a physical connection to it and it is not cut or broken. If the whip is broken, he does feel pain from the loss of connection. Max range is 30 feet with a time usage of 2 hours if used constantly.
Exsanguination:
If another person has a wound, Hawke can call forth blood from that wound to make them bleed out. If someone is bleeding profusely, he can prevent blood loss by will alone or if he's touching the person. This is a ranged ability, and is only effective if Hawke is within 10 feet of the injured person.
In addition, Hawke is also able to control his pulse, detoxify his own blood (from poisons or alcohol) and raise or lower his body temperature accordingly. He can also sense the pulse in others, helping him to determine if they are well or anxious. He can also calm others pulses so they can handle stressful situations better, or increase and decrease blood flow to certain areas of the body for healing purposes. He is able to self heal his self-inflicted wounds and other minor wounds within a day.
AU Abilities (for DF):
Hawke will not be able to affect other's blood unless he's touching them. He will not be able to drain a person of blood (until that person dies) unless there's mun approval. Bloodwhips will only have a length of 15 feet and last a maximum of 1 hour. BloodShields will last a maximum of 1 hour before the blood becomes inactive or unable to form a tough shield.
If Hawke uses his abilities to keep himself warm or cool, he will be able to use this ability for 6 hours before he becomes extremely tired and has to stop and rest. If he has to keep himself from bleeding out of minor wounds he can do this for 4 hours and for major wounds, 2 hours before he needs to see medical assistance. His ability to heal cuts will be lessened, the healing time doubling or tripling in length depending on the severity of the wound.
First Person Sample: (for DF)
Where I am?
-=A low growl comes from the young man as he watches the people point weapons at him.=-
Who are you?
-=Glares threatening at the people, baring his teeth as he remains crouched on the floor.=-
I do not know where I am. Return me to my home! You have no right to take me away from my family.
-=Seems to care little for the fact that he's nude.=-
Come at me with those sticks, and I will hurt you.
Third Person Sample: (for DF)
Hawke walked through the city with his head high and eyes constantly scanning the streets. The clothing was more than uncomfortable; it felt downright unnatural as he walked with a slow and clumsy gait. The boots were too small and confining and he couldn't feel the ground beneath him, making him all the more uneasy when he lost that connection with his environment. the overalls had been forced upon him, thus the raw, open but not bleeding wound over his left temple to make him comply. He left the front open to the bitter cold air party as defiance and partly to soothe himself. If he felt the wind on his skin, he could still be connected to the land around him, no matter how alien it was. After all, land was land, and he felt more familiar with the land than the people themselves.
The city he was in was of human make, and it was crumbling, dying around him. He felt the suspicious glares of the people more than saw them since he refused to look at anyone for the time being. There wasn't a friendly face among them, and Hawke had never felt more alone than he did now. He could feel the fear these people had, the quickened pulse of suspicion and caution. This was not a good place to be, and Hawke was painfully aware of it.
He looked down at the piece of paper in his hand, peering at the words as if they had wronged him. He was in no way illiterate, but English was not his first language. Neither was this scraw, whatever it was. He could barely make out "Midgard," but he had no idea what "Apt" was. Hawke had never heard of such a word! Now he had to find someone to help him figure out what this meant. And trying to find someone willing to help him looked about as promising as him finding his way home.
