>But now I think about it - I'm actually glad that the canon is what it is. It started me writing for one - HHR is my OTP and I wouldn't have been so obsessed or inspired to write them if they had ended up canon. I literally started reading and writing fanfic because I just felt so ripped off by Harry and Hermione. And I discovered so many great fanfic writers from that fandom
Huh. Much as I hate to give JKR credit for anything, even stuff she did by accident, there's some truth to that. A lot of the great H/Hr fic was basically written as protest.
True, and many a great thing has come out of protest :) God it just feels weird to think about it because I remember when I first started shipping them it was considered such a slight upon JKR to want anything but One Big Happy Wesley Family ...now it turns out she didn't know what she was doing... lol it's kinda hilarious :)
I saw and read that and felt so VINDICATED! Like, we all KNEW it. Then I was sad because all of my H/Hr groups and fanfic authors fizzled out a very long time ago. I had no one to share the joy with.
I'll share with you! VINDICATED is the word alright - seriously, from being told we were crazy for years to this? It's too good! It's not even about 'I told you so'...it's just that I remember feeling like there really was something suspect about the canon ships, it wasn't just me being a weirdo haha :) I bet (and hope) HHR has a resurgence now - I've been revisiting fic and thinking of publishing again so maybe I'm not the only one :)
I was never a big HP fan, but I have read the entire series and could never get behind Ron/Hermione, so this revelation doesn't surprise me one bit. Harry/Hermione definitely makes more sense.
Riiiight? It was so obvious to me, I thought at any moment it would all turn around to being HHR, right up until that horrendous epilogue. I remember literally putting it down and going 'Whaaa? Huh??' haha. Ron and Hermione was just cheeeeesy as hell :)
I actually thought of you when I heard this, hoping it would inspire you to write more H/Hr because she finally admits what we knew all along! I suppose I feel more vindicated than anything too, but I have to admit--I doubt I would have gotten in to fanfiction at all had it not been for my disappointment in canon, which would have been a shame because I too have read so many amazing H/Hr stories over the years.
So yes, if you've got more on that hard drive, POST IT ALL! I want to read everything! :)
Aw that's so lovely, thanks :) I actually did the same, went straight to my fave HHR fanfic writer's journal thinking the same thing haha - it was parkergray by the way. Yea I've been polishing some fic I found to tell the truth so wherever I end up posting it I promise I'll come back here and link it! I also found a good rec list I've been working through lately HHR Reclist And yup, I don't regret the canon for the fact of the awesome fic I've found because of it too :) Still love JKR regardless :)
