Exactly. Somehow, knowing that he's equally liable to stand by and just grin while you make a fool of yourself as he is to help you, sort of puts pressure on you to not be a fool in the first place.
Since he was the more human avatara (despite acknowledging being a God... if that makes any sense at all), I think he understands human nature much better. He knows us. He knows when we're just asking him for help when we can actually do things ourselves (and stands by and grins because he knows we'll figure it out eventually for ourselves) and he knows when we're asking for help when we really need it, and he helps
