[Giles waits for several seconds to make sure that that's the end of the noise before he dares to speak. For one thing, he's listening for noises that might hint at location.

He knows the tune, even if he might not know the words. And this? This is concerning.]

...Vash?

[For now Vash doesn't answer. Not that he doesn't hear you, he's just not sure he's sober enough to deal with this just yet.]

[Yes, well, those don't sound like village noises. Since the boat is near enough to the forest anyway, Giles will start pacing the outskirts.

If Vash doesn't answer inside of ten minutes, Giles will call his name again.]

[He answers on the second call.]

I'm fine.

[Grune loves taking walks in the woods. She likes listening to the birds chirping and the river flowing...

...but she doesn't like listening to glass shattering and people sobbing.

She walks in the direction of that second, heartbreaking sound, not quite sure who she's about to find as she calls out:] Hello? Is someone there?

[Vash knows he's way to upset and drunk to deal with Grune of all people in person. So he doesn't answer her call, but he doesn't move either.]

[Grune wanders a little closer, and then:] ...Vash? Is something the matter?

[Vash sits where he was with his glasses on his face, not bothering to look up.] I'm fine.

[Jigen doesn't know Vash but he knows what a drunken fit sounds like. Many times has he experienced this same thing, probably with similar haunting memories--if that is Vash's case at all. There's silence from this gunman in attempt to observe anything useful before speaking calmly.]

Rough day?

[A voice he doesn't know. It's a little better, and so far ignoring the voices hasn't worked.] Kind of.

If you ever need an ear, I'll buy you a decent drink. [A small sigh.] From one troubled man to another, I hope you get better.

[There's a small laugh, that's more like a sigh really.] Yeah, thanks. [He appreciates the offer, even though he knows he'll never take it.]

[Staring never gets anything accomplished with these humans.]

What are you doing?

[sitting and crying and throwing glass things that miss by about a foot. ...She doesn't know he wasn't aiming at her, though. Hiding as she was.]

I plan to clean it up. [And he does. The moment it left his hand he knew he couldn't leave the glass out here in the woods.]

[That isn't entirely what she meant. Good try, though. She's not leaving.]

[And he just doesn't care, he will stop his crying now he knows someone is watching. He'll just sit there staring down at the remaining bottle in his hand.

Damn, why'd he have to throw the full one?]
