NAME: Joshua Foley
CODENAME: Elixir
SERIES/SOURCE: New X-Men/X-Men/X-Force
AGE: 16
GENDER: Male
ROLE: Student

BACKGROUND:
Josh was a happy kid growing up. His parents loved him and gave him everything he ever wanted, and the other kids enjoyed hanging out with him. As he grew older he learned to blend in with the “cool” crowd and this involved getting into groups that many people thought of as gangs. One such gang was an anti-mutant group that his friends loved to go to. Josh joined them with a smile and an open mind.

While out with his little gang, Josh and his friends stumbled upon a mutant and his human friend. Josh stood back and watched, as his friends beat the mutant within an inch of his life. He did his part when he was told to hold the human back, but his heart was hardly into it. He didn’t like the violence and wanted to help, but these were his friends. He couldn’t go against them.

As the kids were continuing to beat the mutant, a cop burst onto the scene. Josh, panicking grabbed his friends and ran. When they got far enough away and realized the cop wasn’t following them, Josh made up a lie to take off. On his way home, mostly to get sick, he phoned in a tip to the cops. Hoping that the mutant had survived. When Josh got home, he locked himself in his room and proceeded to get sick. He knew in the morning he’d have to call his friends and get them to explain why they had done what they did, but that night he just wanted to curl up and die.

In the morning, it was like a knife had plunged into Josh’s head. As he stumbled his way to his bathroom he was horrible to realize that his skin had turned a bright shade of gold. He wanted to scream, but only gasps came out. Hearing the noise, his mother approached the door, but Josh couldn’t answer her quarry. He was terrified and opened his bathroom window and climbed out. When his feet hit the ground, he didn’t stop running, even as people shouted about the naked mutant running down their streets.

Josh ran until he was out of breath, then pushed himself some more. Hoping in the back of his mind that it had been some cruel trick played on him, and that his sweat and tears would wash away the goldness. However as night approached, the gold skin remained and Josh collapsed under a bridge. Breathing heavy, he passed out from the exhaustion.

The next few weeks were spent running from town to town. He collected things from the nicer people, like a shirt and pants and even a pair of shoes. But mostly he ran. People from the smaller towns ran after him with sticks and threw stones at him, but he didn’t stop. At one point one of the townspeople got him in the head with a stone, and when he finally stopped to check his wound, it had already healed. Shocked by this, Josh injured himself again, to see what would happen. The wound didn’t heal, and Josh grew irritated. He lashed out at a harmless bush screaming at himself and his stupid mutation. He just wanted his wound to heal, and with that thought it did. Josh realized that he could only heal himself, if he mentally did it. He had to consciously activate his powers. But if he could heal himself, could he heal others?

Three months into his running away, Josh realized that he could heal others. Yet those others hardly wanted a mutant to heal them. Disheartened and growing weary of humans, he stuck to himself and the alleys. He stole himself a long coat, hat, gloves, and a scarf and hid himself away from view.

During the fifth month, he spotted a TV program which featured parents talking about their missing children. He was shocked to see his parents on the show, crying and begging him to return to them. Josh smiled and set out for home. Though the trip was long and tiring, Josh finally made it back home. He burst into the door and threw off his disguise ready to be pulled into his mother’s loving arms. However he was met with not his mother’s cries of joy, but her screams of anger.

Josh listened with tears welling in his eyes as his father and mother tore into him. Called him a monster, and how they no longer wanted him in their homes, and then claiming that he had killed their son. Josh fled the room in tears and didn’t look back. But without his home, where could he go?

As he walked the streets of his former home town, he heard a few of the kids talk about the human boy who had run of a mutant school. Josh was instantly interested in this and donned his costume again and went to find more information about this school. What he learned shocked him, but would they ever accept one of their former tormentors to join their ranks?

When Josh feels at home, he’s the one everyone knows as the ladies man. He’s also not afraid to say what comes to mind, even if it happens at the least appropriate time. Because of his big mouth, he can be seen as an idiot. It is actually a surprise so many people like him to begin with. Even when he’s depressed however, he will still seek out company, even if it’s only one person.

On the run he left lost and betrayed by everyone he ever trusted. No one seemed to want to help the poor lost mutant boy, and for months he clung to himself. He became even angrier at normal humans, and even started to despise them. Why should they get off so easy? Why did they hate him so much for being born different? As those thoughts pushed at him, he started to lash out at anyone who sneered at him, but his mutant abilities reacted against him, healing his victims instead of harming them.

When Josh eventually got in touch with his parents, he wasn’t all too shocked when they flat out disowned him. He sunk into a heavy depression and would send days sitting alone in some quiet corner.

- RP SAMPLES
First-person sample:
People of Xavier’s, my name is Josh Foley, and I’m going to be your newest classmate. I’m not sure how I feel about coming to a new school, but I guess I’ll deal. Haven’t really been to school in a few months, so sorry if I’m so behind on everything.

Now I guess on to the more important things, like where does a guy get something good to eat? Like say he’s been living off of scraps and junk for oh say six months?

Help would be nice.

Third-person sample:
Josh stared at the gate from across the street. He shuffled his feet and shoved his hands further into his pockets. The gate didn’t move, but Josh did. He started to walk away, he hated this. He had done all his research, he knew he was a mutant, and he knew this was the only place he could get help. But he couldn’t get himself to go up to the gate.

He stopped short for a moment, listening to the students who he could clearly see having fun in the lawn. He moved over to the gate and placed a gloved hand on the bars, staring out from behind his sunglasses. He knew they had seen him, and most had turn and laughed. He’d never been laughed at by kids his own age before. It was a horrible feeling. One he never wanted to feel. One he didn’t deserve to feel.

His mind made up, he marched up to the gate, pressed the button and watched in shock as the gates opened. He smirked under his scarf and marched through the gates. It was time to change his future.
