History: Part Polish, part Russian, Nikita was born in what today is called Belarus but what was then known as the Kingdom of Lithuania. He was brought to Tyrol as a babe in arms, and only his name shows signs of his foreign ancestry. His accent, his clothing, everything about him is pure Tyrolian, but perhaps only because he has lived here for thirty years ( ... )

Hans, the man who'd taught him how to fight with a rapier, taught him how to fight with a bigger, military issue sword with a smaller one at his side. He grew bigger and stronger, able to take more punishment from the criminals he chased - many of whom were twice his age. Beneath his uniform, he was still a simple man from the grounds after all. He blended in well and found himself growing sympathetic to their causes. Some of these people were desperate. It almost felt wrong to lock them up ( ... )

Then one night as he had to help back another drunken lordling from the brothel, he slipped his coinpurse out of his pocket. It gave him a high, a feeling that he was genuinely doing the Right Thing. If stealing could lead to happiness, did that make it a crime ( ... )

It's difficult to anger him, but putting those he cares for in danger is a sure fire way. Harm any of those he's come to think of as "his" and he'll hunt you to the ends of the earth. One day, you will wake up with a knife in your ribs or his name isn't Kaplinsky ( ... )
