Character: Stella Telmes
Series: Tales of Legendia
Version: Game - just before she dies.
Age: 17
Gender: Female
Appearance: Stella is a young woman, only looking to be around perhaps nineteen or twenty at best and standing at average height and possessing a slim figure. She has bright blue eyes. Aside from two tendrils that hang freely and her, her long blond hair is always tucked into a single bun off to the right side of her head, the hair ornament used to hold it in place causing the appearance of a strange, orange zig-zag pattern going down the length of the bun while frays of the same color hang just below it. When it’s not being kept up, it falls a little past waist-length.
Her outfit is…complex, to say the least. The majority of it is white, trimmed with light blue, a line of which runs down the center and curves off to either side just above her chest. There are two gold buttons placed over them. The dress itself has no sleeves, but she wears two long ones on her arms, also white with blue trim. There are two separate strips of color around the waist of her dress, moving down into a V shape - a blue one, and a significantly thinner strip of grey. From the latter hangs three “flaps” - one hanging in front, while the other two connect in the back to form an “A”-like shape in the back.
The one in front falls only a little over half-way down her thighs, that are a dark blue-grey with a lighter grey trim and decoration, while the ones off to the side are white and possess the same grey trim, but lack decoration, instead having a small pouch off to either side. They are significantly longer - going past her knees. Underneath this is a longer skirt, also white, that nearly reaches her ankles. Her knee-length, flat-heeled boots are white as well, with a blue line running down the middle and a toe-box of the same color. Her teriques is a vibrant gold, sometimes appearing in the shape of wings, while others it takes the form of a phoenix-like creature - though when it’s “body” can be seen (when smaller it appears as a bright, shimmering light) is made up of only three red orbs.
Personality: Stella has been described as kind, caring, gallant and brave, but capable of being stubborn and at times even frail. This is entirely accurate. Stella is a kind individual who is very much willing and able to sacrifice herself for the sake of others or for the greater good as a whole. She is slow to anger and generally quick to forgive, but capable of holding a grudge if the right nerve has been hit. She can be fiercely protective over those she cares about and would do anything to keep them safe. She’s generally a mature, level-headed individual, but once her mind has been set on something she’s difficult to dissuade. In certain instances it might be possible - she is generally not pointlessly stubborn, after all - but generally by then her mind has been made up, especially if it’s for some greater good or to keep those she cares about out of danger.
That being said, she’s a very brave, strong individual who’s capable of putting herself in dangerous situations and ignoring any fear that rises in order to do what needs to be done. She’s a person who is capable of being brave even in the face of death. She’s generally confident when it comes to the matter of herself and her abilities. She generally has a brighter outlook on things, being one of the few of her kind who fail to hold a grudge against the Orerines for all the horrors that they’ve caused. She can take a joke and even enjoy teasing when the situation allows for it and generally favors to look at the bright side to dwelling on the bad. Her private affairs tend to stay that - private, and she prefers not to let others in on her own sorrows. She would much rather push it down, at the very least at the time, and if needed cry it off alone later or on the shoulder of someone she particularly cares for.
At times first impressions can make or break Stella’s view of a person - she is someone who could fall in love at first sight, but just as easily find herself with a bad feeling, but more often than not she tries to be pleasant with everyone she meets until given reason not to and is a very social creature - really, it's hard not to get along with her or to find someone she genuinely dislikes. She grows attached to others easily, but generally can sever those attachments just as easily due to past experiences. Said past experiences would be one of the few things that would detract from her seemingly upbeat personality - torture, death, discrimination - she’s seen all three countless times right in front of her eyes, has dealt with the pains of discrimination and experimentation, along with an experiment that led to her comatose-like state for the better part of three years. Seeing these things has only made her more inclined to protect others and ensure their safety, has even led her to be more willing to kill if needed (though she tries to avoid it and torture is simply out of the question), but at the same time it’s led to her feeling even more distressed when something happens to someone close to her.
She can be very frail at times, though, and it can be painfully obvious when she is. She’s capable of fear and overwhelming depression, enough to where she will sometimes start to crack. This can span from clinging to her boyfriend and asking to stay with him for just a little longer to starting to outright break down, though the former is a rarity. Both are generally stifled quickly in order to press on, but all the same still existent. She’s just as capable of fear and sadness as anyone else, whether or not it shows quite as often as some. It's something that she tries to keep buried deep inside of her more often than not, to suppress while putting on a smile for the sake of those around her.
Fears: Stella has a deep-rooted fear of torture, modification and experiments, two things that she is more than familiar with due to seeing it done to others and subsequently having it done to her. Neither are experiences she wants to live - or relive, for that matter, and it’s instilled in her enough to where she’s quick to shy away from anything that even looks like it might be used for such a cause. She fears death as well, whether or not it shows, and fears any of the above happening to those that she cares about. She’s worked so hard to protect them, after all… She has a definite fear of discrimination as well. She wants to be accepted and liked by people who are different from her. She fears having to live in…well, fear, for the rest of her days simply because she’s different.
Weaknesses: While useful, eres consume energy just like any other kind of “magic”. When used too often, this can both weaken her and create a need to both eat and sleep more often for the sake of recovery. The same can be said for her teriques with many of its less basic features. She is an individual who is meant to support in a group rather than be on a frontal assault - she leans towards support spells and as a whole while spell casting times are generally fast, but all the same it can put her at a disadvantage, especially with faster moving foes and so being on her own puts her at a definite disadvantage.
Being without water for long periods of time can be more harmful to her than a normal person as well - while they’ve adapted and can easily survive on land, in the end the Ferines are a people of the water and are not meant to be deprived of it for too long. Additionally, she is fairly fragile physically. She’s had a little training when it comes to the use of martial arts and a weapon, but not enough so to where she wouldn’t be overpowered by many. Emotionally, she also can grow attached to people too quickly at times and is incredibly self sacrificial, something that can too easily come back to haunt her.
Strengths/Abilities: Stella’s abilities primarily tie into her teriques and her eres. Her teriques can manifest itself as a phoenix that can be used either offensively or defensively for short periods of time. It can also manifest itself as a pair of golden wings that appear on her back, allowing for flight or a bubble around a different person and if she so chooses, sending the occasional painful shock through them. Her eres cause her fingertips to glow and through this she can cast some decently powerful support spells, and a dash of magic as well.
She’s gotten some training from Senel when it comes to the matter of physically fighting and is surprisingly fast, but she’s much more magically inclined. Additionally, as a Ferines water can help to expedite her recovery when injured or sick and can breathe underwater. She’s pretty damn good at swimming, too~
History: Stella Telmes was born a Feirnes on the mainland. Little is known about her childhood, but it seems their parents died before even one of their children would reach adulthood, leaving the older and far more mature of the two to take care of the both of them. The older of the two being Stella, who was willing enough to take to caring for her younger sister, Shirley. Presumably she was had to deal with discrimination, to live on the mainland, in spite of earnestly believing that the Ferines and Orienes could live in peace with one another. At some point five years ago, during the winter, on a snowy day she met a young boy named Senel and almost immediately developed an infatuation with him, laughing at him in the cold and as she took his hands and gingerly pulling him away from the snow and ice.
From that day forward they started to become good friends and eventually even more than that. She introduced him to her younger sister, Shirley, as well. She was aware of her younger sister’s crush on Senel - the boy she considered to be her brother, in spite of them not being related by blood - but easily dismissed it as a child’s crush on an older boy. Such things were not at all uncommon, after all. No, what was concerning for her with her sister was the fact that she was the Meiriness. That made her a sought after figure that was to be hidden away from those that would harm her and protected by those who wouldn’t, including her own older sister.
Stella did that as well. She protected Shirley and cared for her as much as needed, especially after the day she failed her Rite of Ascension. That was a memory that was burned deep inside of her. She felt uneasy about it by herself, knowing what the Merines was intended to be used for (salvation), but was oblivious to the finer details that might have further deterred her and willing enough to let her little sister go through with it as she wished to. Unfortunately, because of Shirley’s fear of killing her own brother as a result of completing it, it was a failure and she became deathly ill.
Stella became even more protective over her that day. She would explain to her later what had happened, after caring for her and praying for her health to return for days on end, about the fever she’d developed and of how worried she’d been, but left out any more gruesome details. She left out, too, the way Senel had been her pillar of support during that time. Later she would discover that Shirley had suffered more permanent losses as well. Seawater would no longer help her recover - in fact, it damaged her, quickly and easily causing her to become weakened and ill and her powers were entirely gone. She was distressed and worried as any older might have been upon finding that their younger one could no longer handle the sea she was meant to be in or even use her powers, the ones that were meant to save everyone…
But that was all the more reason to protect her and keep her close and so she did, her bond with Senel growing to the point where he was planning on performing the Rite of Feriyen with her (something she teased him about due to his inability to keep up with her and Shirley underwater). Unfortunately, that would never happen, as one day the Crusand attacked. They’d found out from Senel, who had worked under him. Stella knew this, but she both loved and trusted Senel, enough so to leave Shirley in his capable hands. She demanded that he take Shirley and flee the village, to ensure that she was protected, saying that she would catch up, but at the same time…before Stella went to perform this task, she found herself clinging to him, asking to stay with him like that for just a little longer.
She never would get the opportunity to catch up with him. She is a strong woman - strong enough to fight off Crusand soldiers, but in the end she was captured by the same group Crusand after receiving what should have been a fatal injury and having one last conversation with Senel before slipping into unconsciousness. Shirley and Senel would believe she died, but the truth was she was taken and locked away in a cage, along with others. From then on she would be shown a tablet, threatened, but not killed when she could not decipher it. She would see many of her kinsman be tortured and die, beaten, but kept alive for some reason that she could not quite comprehend for the longest time. Eventually it became clear, however, as she was used for a certain experiment. The experiment being finding a way to effectively create an “artificial Marines” - a way of controlling the ship they were on, the Legacy, without actually being the Marines. Stella was apparently a suitable test subject, because she was kept inside of a large sphere full of water, kept alive even after her mind connected with the ship.
She would remain that way for three years, caring for Senel and saving him through the use of her teriques more than once before being hooked up to the Nerifes Cannon. Even so she kept her control over the ship, when she was finally released and Shirley was unable to control the ship, Stella did. Her teriques took the form of a large phoenix and she was able to mimimize the damage done by the canon through this, but already worn and tired from having the Nerifes Cannon take so much of her life from her, she was not fairing well in spite of their best efforts. Her life was just about to flicker out, having had told the two of them everything she could and needed to when she fell into the Dollsyhouse…
