My friend was raped in high school. Her "friends" at the time told her not to report it because it would ruin HIS tennis career, not that he has had one. If I had been friends with her at the time I would have punched her "friends" and reported it.
It is sad that in this day and age with as educated a society that we supposedly have a girl can still be thought to be at fault for being raped.
I guess that all of us should walk around in the daylight, in packs, in burlap sacks, though I am sure someone would still blame the girl if she got raped.
double standard?

Good post. I just saw on Dateline that a 41 year old divorced guy who adopted a 5 or 6 year old Russian girl and sexually abused (raped) her and posted nude pictures of her on the internet was facing "35 years" in prison. I also saw where an older woman who sexually abused a child in similar fashion was facing LIFE in prison. Raping a child (molesting/abusing) should be automatic life. Punishment for any rape needs to be harsher.

Absolutely. And none of this "Life in prison, but you can get out early if you behave" People like that have something wrong in their heads and they shouldn't be let back into society. Are penal colonies still legal? Possible?
okay, i'm gonna catch some hell for thispadgettfarmerDecember 4 2005, 23:50:43 UTC
but i gotta post it for the sake of conversation. I agree with everything you guys said, totally. Except maybe the penal colonies bit, and that's just because I'm a little gray on what a penal colony actually was (is it like what australia used to be

there is no hell to catch. lots of women dont report rape for lots of reasons. Two of my closest friends have been raped. and they never reported it. and while it sickens me that those men went free, i also totally respect the fact that they didnt want to face the publicity, and humiliation or reliving the experience. but the point is, that lots of people know about the rapist even if its never reported, (the people the survivor tells, family, friends that find out...) and simply their opening their mouths about it can make a difference, no names mentioned, but simply saying "that man is a rapist" even if not everyone believes you, well... it puts enough of a doubt in enough minds to perhaps make a difference. so no worries, no hell here.
