When I went to Mexico a few years ago, we did the all-inclusive thing, too. We were there for a whole week, and we actually got to know some of the guys who worked there (I think one of them had a crush on my step-sister). I guess the resort we stayed at was not like the other resorts that my parents had visited in the past. The employees at our resort really liked working there - their smiles were genuine. My parents said that this wasn't typical based on their previous experiences. So while we were the rich white family (with all the other rich white families and couples), I don't think I felt quite the way you did about the disparity between the classes. Also, there were a lot of Europeans and Canadians at our resort... maybe they liked to go there to get away from the Ugly Americans?

I wonder if it's a different experience because you were there during Spring Break? Were there a lot of college kids around?
