Let the airline know that you've had a death in the family. The reservation agent will be able to give you the lowest-cost flight available (a bereavement fare). They might need a copy of the obituary or a note from the funeral director attesting to that fact when you check in to come back from Nashville (they did when my mother died, at any rate). It'll still be expensive, but not nearly as expensive as a short-reservation-time flight normally would be.

I'm terribly sorry for your loss.

hmmmm sometimes yes using bereavement helps but I've always found cheaper fares without it (i've done this a time or few)

Try expedia.com, travelocity.com or maybe check a surrounding airport?

southwest doesn't fly into Nashville (bummer) and neither does AirTran - those are my two picks for no advance fares.

Good luck dear :)

(((hugs)))

Leaving out of BWI you can catch a southwest flight into nashville. They just don't do national or dulles to nashville.

It's 189 out there oddly leaving today (fully refundable) and they have some cheaper internet fares for later in the week on return - some as low as $89.00

Hope this helps !

I booked a Southwest flight out of BWI.

I will just have to pack tonight and be ready to leave as soon as I am finished in the morning. I'll google directions and remain confident that I won't get too lost.

Thank you for the ticket suggestion. It really was kind and very helpful.

So sorry to hear about your grandmother.
Just for reassurence finding BWI is not bad the exits are well marked both off 95 and BW parkway and signs from there are pretty clear .
FWIW I usually find that it is a little easier taking the BW parkway(295?) from the beltway then it is 95
