Hi there! On the matter of the tent, you can pick up a nylon tent relatively cheap at places like Wal-Mart or Target. It doesn't have to be a period pavillion and most people's first tent is precisely a nylon one. :-)
Garb: Bring what you have. Chitons are also very easy to make (basically a tube) and T-tunics are very simple. We may suggest a Pennsic garb night at the baronial meeting this Sunday.
Use your common sense. There are some lists that include stuff such as armor. You are not a fighter, so you don't need that.
As for cash, I don't know what to tell you. It will depend. Talk with Brigid or weebaby. There is a food court, so if you are not in a meal plan you can purchase food. There are also supermarkets close to Cooper's. Your best bet will probably be bringing your own food for some meals and using the food court for others.
1) A good firend is going for the first time, too. By herself. She may have space in her "land pimple" nylon tent. I will ask her. (Are you camping with Ponte Alto?)
2) Garb. One thing I learned from azpapillion is that I have to get rid of my modern-day notion of a different outfit for each day. 2-3 outfits will be fine. Let's schedule a time when you can come over and I'll split the garb I borrowed from psalite with you.
3) Money. Sigh. This may keep me from going. Yes, merchants take plastic. Yes, there is an ATM (I stood in line for 45 minutes!) I spent nearly $500 because I didn't have a plan. My advice is make a budget and stick to it! If you eat in the food court every day, plan on $20/day. Then decide on how much you can afford for merchants. You may want to pick up one really good outfit, so plan on at least $100 for such.
4) Don't worry about it! You'll have a blast! I did!
Oh help with garb would be greatly appreciated! Let me know what your schedule is like. (I have out-of-town family commitments the next two weekends, but then my schedule opens up again.) Yes, I am camping with Ponte Alto. And the budget info is also very, very helpful.
You are a wealth of information and great ideas!!! Thank you for your suggestions. I really appreciate the mattress/sleeping info.
And the garb pattern information is exactly what I was looking for (*happy dance*).
By comfy shoes, do you mean tennis shoes or have you found some period shoes that are also comfortable? Do they make such a thing and would I be able to purchase them from a vendor on-site? Otherwise, I can wear my leather moccasins I got from the MD Renaissance Festival. Perhaps with a couple pairs of shoe insoles, they would work.
I really like the tent options you listed. I don't know if I can swing one this year, although my birthday is a few weeks after Pennsic . . . maybe I can ask for it as an early b-day present.
The Juryrig heads a household up in the B09 block and there are a bunch of folks from MDRF that are in the household. Nancy and I will be up there for the full run if there is anything we can do to help you, or feel free to come by and visit.

Thanks hon. I will be sure to look you guys up! I hadn't even thought about running into MDRF folks at Pennsic. (Duh! I guess I was having a blonde moment.)
Maybe Juryrig crew can show me the lay-of-the-land when I finally get there (although I know you all are much more at home on the open seas). It would be much fun to catch up with everyone prior to MD Renn Faire season.
Yes, I could take you up on a loan of the nylon tent. I also got a question from duncan_mcguyver about where I am camping. I am guessing it is with Ponte Alto group but I don't know anymore than that.
Actually, I am not even sure how the Ponte Alto group of tents works. Maybe you can email me at (sschu12345 at aol dot com) or tell me sometime at choir practice.

Packing list: There are many online. Here are a couple: Currentmiddleages.org, Pennsic.net, Dragonbear.com.
Or you can simply google "Pennsic Packing List."

I think there will be someone there at land-grab that will work to get a specific spot, but that is all I know. Sorry, wish I had more info.
