I would like to share with you this evening one of my favorite portraits. Here is Dikken, the enigmatic leader of Dikken's gang at the Robin Hood Faire, as portrayed by a talented actor named Travis Joyce. In this scene, Dikken learned that Robin Hood's Merry Men planned to smuggle Little John into the castle by posing him as the Pope. I noticed

the only thing i don't like is the composition.
i wish he were farther to the left. also, if it wasn't so tight.
that way he would be the background.

I've heard a few people suggest that I crop out that tree to the left. I'm a little torn; I like the depth and the design afforded by the trees, but I can see how the one on the left could be seen as encroaching on the subject.

i like the depth too, but when we're this close to the subject it feels like we're stalking him.
if we could see around the tree to the left it would feel more open.
