This brings to mind a letter to the editor I once saw. The writer responded to criticism in the paper of SUVs by saying he drove an SUV for "self-defense". "If everyone else is walking around with ten foot poles you'd be a fool to carry an eight foot pole", he wrote. My immediate reaction was 'wouldn't it be better if everyone just put down their pole?' I think it's worth taking a risk to make the world better.
