I think all cable companies suck (or seem to). Seriously, just today on the NY comm, there's a post about how Time Warner sucks, with comments about how other companies are worse. In Montreal, hating on Videotron is a way of life.
I'm getting cable for free right now because my landlords had the whole house wired and let the tenants use the cable and internet as a freebie. I'd love to have some other channels and HD and a PVR (oh gods how I loved my DVR in NY) but I just can't justify laying out that money when I'm not working. I think I'm going to get a Zip account soon. I had Netflix in NY and loved it, though I kind of stopped using it much when I got my DVR.
Timeshifting means you get channels from across Canada so you can watch shows at different times. My brother has a Bell dish and gets this. It's the best thing ever to be able to watch Craig Ferguson at 10:30. I miss Craig most of all.
I was thinking about it and changed the subject line. Their customer service is known for being atrocious (http://www.ihaterogers.ca), generally speaking, though I'm glad you had a positive experience with the technician. The technicians are actually contract so maybe that's the difference? I don't know. The last technician we had was super nice and I really liked him.
The actual service Rogers provides has always been good too, which is what really prompted me to change my subject line.
Really cool that you get free cable and internet -- very good deal.
I knew what timeshifting meant but wasn't sure if those channels were already included in the VIP package. On their website, one page says at the top timeshifting is free for all digital cable subscribers, and a couple paragraphs later says it is $1.99 a month. Made no sense. ..so I called and found out the Cdn timeshifting channels are included, the American ones are not. For $3 a month it's worth having, I figured.
Also, as much as everyone bags on Rogers, I think I'm going to go with them for my cell phone. I looooooove my iPhone and all the features, and I don't have a lot of faith in Fido.
When I was getting my (Rogers) land line installed, there was a hassle and the installer had to come back the next day to finish because the landlords weren't home, but he was really really nice about it (it was at the end of his workday and he could have gone home way earlier if not for my problem).
In the north east Comcast sucks. On the west coast Time Warner sucks. In most of the of the country COX sucks. In the south Charter and Comcast sucks. I think I have proven via my moving everywhere that everyone thinks their cable company sucks in the US. LoL My personal opinion thus far is Time Warner is the only one that sucks a lot

I love moving (obviously) but I really hate the fees that are charged due to someone literally JUST pushing a button or putting your name on the file.

We don't have cable or satellite. Just rent flicks from time to time.
I enjoy all the money and time saved.
