I choose to err on the side of laughter, because it's easier than having my blood pressure rise at how shittily Elena's been treated by the ~triangle. Also the entire fandom got trolled and it was hilarious. (Hilarious enough that I made a fanmix to celebrate it.)

Thanks! I was cackling like mad while I made it. (And it helped that there was plenty of inspiration from Tumblr: the land of the asshurt and wrong.)

Mostly though all I want is a show where Elena, Bonnie, and Caroline are flawless (and by flawless I mean gloriously flawed) and full of agency, Jeremy is her adorable (and aging like a fine wine tbh) brother who's best bros with Matt, and Elijah pops in every now and again to make out with Elena and negotiate deals with her. DNC about the Salvatrolls. (Unless, you know, Damon and Katherine decide to hook up, in which case, godspeed brave soldiers.)

WHY DOES THIS SHOW NOT WRITE ITSELF TO MY PERSONAL WANTS AND DESIRES FOR IT?

I legitimately feel for the Damon/Elena fans who are so butthurt right now but also a lot of them are really funny. Sorry, fandom. :\

I WANT THIS SHOW TOO except I am greedy and also want Stefan to have a coherent story arc SO BASICALLY THIS FANTASY WE HAVE WILL NEVER HAPPEN.

rude, it should.

IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII just am 10000% done shipping anything on TVD, everything is terrible. Somebody needs to take away Julie Plec's computer and only write down carefully modified versions of her ideas. I keep arguing online about Elena and agency until it all doesn't mean anything anymore because everything in the entire situation is screwed the end. If there is no agency then everybody is horrible and if there is agency then everybody dies or something.

You are not hallucinating it, there used to be points made about how conscious Stefan was about making sure Elena was forging her own life because he knew how easy it would be for that to go away, and now everyone on the show has just gone FUCK IT.

But there was Stefan and Caroline bitching at each other the phone, so that made up for a lot in the last ep.

wtf, show, wtf.

Ugh and it's just so like this show to present this really gross rapey situation for something other than it is i.e AN ~OBSTACLE TO OVERCOME. The thing is, shows about morally bankrupt people who you root for anyway can be great. In fact, they are often the BEST. But the twisted thing about TVD is, our heroes are all morally bankrupt, but the show only sometimes and not consistently presents them as so. So Damon deserves someone who loves and believes in him because he's pined so much, Stefan can murder people in cold blood for half a season and no one cares, Elena willfully turns a blind eye to the fact that her vampires have killed countless people and yet kicks up a stink at the prospect of her first kill because she's so compassionate etc.

tl;dr: This show was great and could still be great but the triangle has ruined everything.

I might watch for Caroline and Stefan shenanigans ngl.

FOREVER TRUTH.

Here's an unlikely plot twist! Morning after, Stefan stops by and tells Elena he thinks there's a possibility that she has a blood bond with Damon that is compromising her agency. And that Caroline was the one to come up with the theory. He expects her to get mad about him being jealous, but instead she's pissed that they didn't come over when they had the idea because maybe she would appreciate having friends who would do something about it if they suspect she's being date-raped. And then she asks, where's Caroline, and Stefan says that he didn't think it would be a good idea to bring her because Elena hasn't been in the mood to listen to Caroline lately, and Elena goes GOD STEFAN SERIOUSLY IF ANYONE KNOWS WHAT IT FEELS LIKE AND CAN VERIFY WHEN DAMON MENTALLY ROOFIES YOU, IT WOULD BE CAROLINE. And Stefan is speechless and Elena adds that yeah, she wants some comfort sex and a supportive boyfriend right now because she's kinda on ( ... )

I can't even with TVD anymore. Damn Nina and Kat and Candice and all the other women on this show for being so awesome and watchable that I'll suffer through this bull just to see their adorable faces.

Do you watch Nikita? If not, you should. Awesome female characters with agency who actually get to TALK to one another. If the show has an OTP that isn't Nikita/main dude, it's Nikita/Alex. That's not to say it doesn't have issues. Everything Division-related is extremely problematic and most of the characters have extremely upsetting backgrounds. But Nikita and Alex are the leads and their relationship is a HUGE focus of the series and the narrative is mostly told from their POVs.

All three of our favourite ladies deserve a better show.

I do watch Nikita!! I like it, sometimes like it a lot, but don't love it, you know? And I've been finding S3 slow so far. +1 to all the things you've said though.

but I also cannot with Julie Plec comments about the "sire bond" just being another obstacle or whatever. This show and rape culture; congratulations on hitting a new high.

Yeah, this.

S2 was really good too. Actually I would say probably my favourite "season" of the show as 1x17 to 2x09. Oh to go back.

Your "season" does not include enough Elijah, if it weren't for that I might think you had a case.
