I just survived my first tornado warning. Complete with tornado siren and minute by minute weather updates.

Have I mentioned that tornadoes are the *only* natural disaster type thing I am absolutely terrified of?

Wow, that's king of cool/weird/scary. I don't really think of tornados as something that actually happens, they're just something on tv. I've never spent any time in a tornado area...

Earthquakes and kinda neat and kinda scary, but seem normal to me, and hurricanes are a bit fun as long as they don't tear your house apart, but tornados are weird and seem random. All of a sudden the wind formed a cone and threw shit around? Hell no, that's a a Wizard of Oz plot device, not something that really happens, y'know?

Was that the one that covered from your neck of the woods all the way out to ours? That actually kinda freaked me out. No sirens around here, but they did say it covered Cook county.

I don't think our specific warning stretched that far, though the line of storms did. We actually had three separate storms converging on us, each with the start of a tornado forming.

Not fun.

YIKES.

When I was in Alabama last month we had one of those. We were in a big auditorium and the conference coordinator announced that we were under no circumstances to leave the auditorium until told otherwise. (They had a terrorist attack training activity the same morning. We spent a lot of time in really uncomfortable seats.)

Does your house have a basement?

Nope. No basement. Just a tiny downstairs bathroom with no no windows.

We were actually out getting ice cream with friends (80 degrees at 9:30 pm sucks) when the siren went off.
