So, i've got an art project in mind. I'd like to do a sort of stained-glass thing, and i've got the design all figured out, but i'm not sure what sort of materials to use ( Read more... )

i think the transparency and transparency markers would give you a see through look. Also, markers and then lightly misting it with water and letting it dry might be a cool effect. The marker will bead up.... i dunno... worth a try.
There are also several weights, opacities and degrees of both at Pyg's. Big sheets o' paper...

:D Sounds like a fun, good idea!

Why not use glass? It's cheaper than you think. I know we have a glass shop here (Lafayette Glass) that sells "scrap" for next-to-nothing ( ... )

unless you're going to hook the transparencies together with electrical tape, or something, I wouldn't use them - any time glue-like stuff gets on them, they get all weird looking.

my vote is tissue paper - the kind you get at party/gift stores that comes in a huge pack of different colors.

Actually, I believe that if you painted tissue paper with a 1:1 elmer's glue:water mixture and maybe tried overlaying it on the transparency plastic, you might get it to stick, as well as have an even coating. But I'd test anything first on a tiny sheet of whatever before buying a whole shitload.

There is, in fact, a glass paint that mimics stained glass. It's transparent so light comes through and everything. I don't know how many colors you're looking for, so I can't say what you'd need, but I think they may even have small pot sets of eight or something. Check in the stained glass aisle and in the special paints/stencil aisle at the HobLob, but they're in the middle of moving stuff, so check the whole craft side (everything past party stuff on the left side of the store as you go in) to make sure you see everything ( ... )

Lemme show you some stuff I've got that might help out. I've got a whole set of multi-color sharpies as well as some interestingly textured translucent plastic. I have a similar art project that's been on the back burner for a bit now.

I'll bring it next time I see yous guys.
