Whelp, I finally got around to this! I've been meaning to do it for a long time now, but yeah. This is just a big place holder for now. It's nothing too fancy, but I think I prefer something more easier to access and edit than the big fancy HTML stuff.
INDEX
Nakama: For those who don't know, this means friend in Japanese!
Scale: This will go on a 1-5 scale. 1 meaning "Not so much" and 5 meaning "A lot". For example, if your character gets five pieces of meat, that means he's really close to them. Getting One piece would still mean they're nakama just not THAT close. You get the picture. >.>;
Dislikes: You're a jerk, he hates you. If you weren't such a jerk he wouldn't hate you so much
Associates: He's MET your character at least. Eh, pretty cool guy/gal. Do stuff, and doesn't afraid of anything
Becoming Nakama / Are Nakama: Your character is actually pretty cool. He's starting to warm up to them if he hasn't already. Won't be long before they're bestest of buddies!
Close Nakama: This is reserved for all of his really close friends. Although Luffy befriends people fairly easy, this is for all the friends that are particularly close to his heart and that he would probably do nearly anything for.
Love <3: For some reason he can't explain, he actually likes your character in a way that's different than a normal nakama. Hmm, maybe they're nice and can make REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY good meat! That must be it. The chances of Luffy falling in love with someone is low. Like very VEEEERY low, but pbbbt anything can happenz! =O
Canonmates
Nami "Nami can be a jerk sometimes, but she's still my nakama."
Nami can be a big fat jerk face. Most of the time when she hits him, he doesn't even understand why, and at times she can be very very scary. Like you wouldn't even imagine. Despite this, and her sometimes conning him into owing her money, she is a close nakama of his. When Luffy first met Nami, she tricked him and almost got him shot in the face with a canon. But she regretted her decision and saved him just in time (I doubt it would've killed him anyway but yeah). She even tricked him AGAIN later, stealing his ship and all the gold that was on it. But even after that he still wanted her back. He could sense that she was a good person and her navigational skills were something he deemed worthy of his future Pirate King title. But above everything else, she had become his friend and he wasn't going to let her do whatever she wanted just because she was being a little stubborn. He didn't care why she left or for what reason, and even went as far as to entrust his hat to her. He knew that because she was his friend, she wouldn't let anything happen to it if she could help it.
Nami was the first person to technically arrive at Luceti from his home world, and before then Luffy had been pretty lonely here without his nakama. Despite his best efforts he could not break the barrier, and he was starting to worry about his crew. But when Nami arrived, he was so overjoyed to see her. After a almost a year of not seeing his crew mates, he finally got one. He was so overjoyed to see her, that he gave her a hug, which is something he very rarely does.
Sick!Nami: Luffy doesn't know much about medicine or anything. That's Chopper's job. But if Nami is sick he will try his very best to help her feel better quicker if possible. The problem is that although his heart may be in the right place, his methods are not always the most practical. That combined with his simple minded thinking is often a recipe for disaster if you've ever seen one..
Tony Tony Chopper "Chopper's our ship's doctor! He knows a lot about medicine and stuff!"
Chopper is the ships doctor. At first Luffy wanted to eat him, but after seeing his abilities he wanted him to join the crew in the position of an awesome transforming reindeer monster. However, it turned out that Chopper is actually a doctor, and a pretty good one at that. He has not only treated the crews numerous injuries on several occasions, he has also saved some of their lives on occasion. Like the other members of the crew, Luffy has complete faith in Chopper's abilities. Both in his skills as a doctor, and his ability to come through in a fight if the situation were to ever call for it. He's seen first hand that Chopper really cares about the crew and will go to extreme lengths to protect them. He went Monster!Chopper to help everyone at Sabaody, even though he pretty much loses all consciousness when in that form. Chopper and Usopp are the ones on the ship that Luffy clowns around with the most often. This is because the three of them happen to be the most playfully childish of the bunch and as such, they have a similar sense of immature humor.
Chopper and Luffy can also be very naive and easily deceived by others as well as easily impressed. If something is really cool they can probably both be seen awing at.
Roronoa Zoro "Hahaha! Zoro is so dumb at directions!"
Zoro was Luffy's first official crew member, and he has known him for the longest (although not by that long) of any of his crew. They have a pretty solid bond, and have great faith in each others ability to get things done. Zoro can often be seen as Luffy's right hand man in a lot of cases. Although Luffy loves all his nakama, he realizes that some are just not quite are strong as others, and Zoro is one of the few members that is capable of keeping up with his monstrous strength. This is why most of the time Luffy instinctively goes after the strongest guy, and Zoro usually handles the second strongest (unlike Luffy though, it's usually a coincidence that he gets the second strongest guy to fight). They have the kind of connection that usually don't require words, or at least not that many of them. All it really takes is a "Let's go." or a "Cut it" for Zoro to understand perfectly what Luffy wants him to do.
Luffy can be very childish, brash, and simple minded about things, while Zoro tends to keep a cool head, and possibly think things through a little more. And even if he's dealing with his own nakama, he takes being a pirate very seriously. Luffy does too, but sometimes his naivety on some matters can get the best of him. This is why on rare occasions Zoro has to give Luffy a talk and help him realize everything is not as black and white as he's seeing it.
Despite this, Luffy see's Zoro as somewhat of an idiot when it comes to his sense of direction. He thinks his own is superior to his, but the reality is that it's not by much. Both of them tend to get lost if the direction is too complicated, but at least Luffy can follow a straight path if he had to.
Usopp "Usopp is a morooooo~~~n"
Usopp is a good friend of Luffy's and both of them often clown around together and crack jokes about things, or even fellow crew members. When Luffy is around Usopp his behavior tends to become much more juvenile than it would be if he was by himself. A fine example of this is the subject of women in particular. Being a teenage boy, Luffy would have an interest if he seen a girl naked, but it probably wouldn't show all that much. But, when he's around Usopp, his behavior on the matter sky rockets, and his reaction to say, a naked women, is way more over the top than usual.
Although Usopp is pretty much a normal human with a lot of stamina, he is a great sniper, and is possible one of the most strategic members of the Strawhats in battle. Luffy knows all of this, and thus he trusts Usopp to handle even some of the enemies that could easily kill a normal human being. The fact that he trusts Usopp at all is a pretty big testimony to their friendship. On the surface, Usopp can be seen as both a liar and a coward, which isn't exactly the kind of person you want having your back in a fight. But Luffy knows that Usopp is actually a pretty brave guy when he sets his mind to it, and he has no doubt that he will become a brave warrior of the sea one day.
Usopp was the only member to actually "quit" the crew (unless you count Nami) and even went as far to challenge Luffy to a duel for the Going Merry. But even after all of this, Luffy was ready to take him back with open arms, no questions asked. But Zoro pointed out that a crew must respect their captain, which is true, even if Luffy doesn't necessarily consider himself over anyone else on the crew. But once Usopp apologized they were best friends instantly again. Usopp is usually the one that tries to point out Luffy's fail!logic but most of the time he's not paying much attention or is too excited to listen to whatever it is he's trying to say.
Brook "Brook is really awesome! He's a skeleton with an AFRO and he can even run on water!"
Brook is an awesome skeleton. The two of them had only known each other for maybe an hour or less, but they got along like they had known each other for years. Luffy finds Brook really funny and loves to laugh at his "skull jokes" when he tells them. When they first met, he probably was the only one who wasn't creeped out in the slightest by Brook. He actually found him really cool, and a funny person to be around. He is a scardy cat like Nami, Chopper, and Usopp, but he is a person who essentially just wants to have a good time and enjoy a laugh with his friends. Luffy can appreciate someone like that to be around. Especially around dinner time, because they share the same impatience when waiting for food. Brook can also understand Luffy even when his mouth is full of food for some reason. He could possibly be the only one who is capable of doing this in the crew.
On top of that, he's a musician. Ever since the beginning of his journey, Luffy has wanted a musician in his crew, and he couldn't possibly ask for a better one than Brook. He has said he can play pretty much any instrument he wants which is a feat most musicians could only hope to accomplish.
Sanji "Sanji cooks really really good meat!"
Sanji is the ships cook! Ya can't have a good pirate ship without a cook, and Luffy managed to snag one of the best cooks around. Out of everyone in the crew, he probably bothers Sanji the most because he's the one who makes all the food, and coincidentally, this is also the reason he probably whines to Sanji the most about his food supply.. After Nami, Sanji is most likely the member of the crew who hits Luffy the most for his foolish behavior and impatience with food. Although Sanji has stated that he puts less effort into the men's food as he does the women, Luffy still adores his cooking, and will often times compare it to others cooking as a result. In a way, you can say Luffy has become spoiled off Sanji's phenomenon cuisine meals, but not to the point where he wont eat anything else. It's just he uses Sanji food as a base to how really good meat should taste. This is why if Luffy ever runs into an animal that he thinks looks pretty tasty, there's a high chance that he's going to try to have Sanji cook it for him. Out of all the Strawhats, Luffy finds Sanji the most fun to mock because of the cigarette pose he does while doing it, and the fact that Sanji is so serious when it comes to meat. However, occasionally he'll also mock Zoro though.
Like Luffy always takes out the first strongest, and Zoro, the second strongest, Sanji is the person who usually handles the third strongest guy, or someone around that area. The three of them are probably the strongest of the crew, and Luffy pretty much knows this. They're the ones he can count on if they ever have to face off against any really strong guys. Even though they may argue and Luffy might get kicked in the head sometimes, they're still really good friends and either of them would die for the other at a moments notice with no regrets.
Boa Hancock "T'always seems like she's saving my ass or helping me. I owe her a lot!"
When he first met Hancock, he thought she was a real bitch. She was arrogant, she turned the friends who helped him out into stone, and she pissed him off in general. But after she unstoned them, he figured she was at least not a totally bad person. Later she reveals to him that she was actually a former slave, but he doesn't look down on her at all. It's not like he liked the Tenryūbito in the first place, so knowing she was once a slave of theirs didn't degrade his opinion of her. However, unknowingly to Luffy, this actually leads to her falling in love with the him, and that alone is possibly the sole reason she takes him to Impel Down. Not only that, but she also helps him out against Smoker, an enemy Luffy is totally powerless against. His views of Hancock has changed from an evil snake lady, to a nice person/helpful ally, and now to a nakama. He still forgets her name from time to time, but he made a note to try and remember it after she helped him into Impel Down, and again at Marineford.
In Luceti, Hancock has told Luffy about Haki and has even went as far as to say she will train him on how to use it. If he learns how to use Haki, he knows he'll be stronger, and when he gets back, to Marineford, his chances of saving Ace will widely increase. Luffy is very grateful for this and all Hancock has done for him. He feels her owes her a great debt.
Child!Hancock: When Hancock loses all her memories after the age of twelve, she becomes pretty childish, and thus Luffy actually has more fun talking to her than he does her adult self. And her face doesn't seem to turn red all the time when she loses her memories either for some reason. She's also not as serious as she was when she had all her memories so now she can finally have a little fun and relax. Because of this, Luffy thinks this might be something good for her. Sure he wants her memories to come back, but he also thinks she'll have more fun in this state for a while. The problem is that.... she can be a bit too childish. She basically steals his hat and draws on his face while he's sleeping. Forcing him to chase after her. Luffy isn't very used to another person in the house/crew being a bigger troll more of a child than he is, so he finds her pranks a little annoying.

"Hnnn. He always says he's normal, but I bet he can do something really cool!"
Flynn is the first friend Luffy acquired in Luceti, and like Meryl, Luffy thinks he can stand to lighten up a bit. Although Flynn is like the Marines back in Luffy's world, he doesn't see Flynn as a foe at all. Like the more sensible of the Strawhat crew, Flynn is often times the one to put Luffy in check about his immaturity and childish behavior, and even bother to try and talk some sense into him about some things, although Luffy rarely listens to his suggestions and is far too stubborn and simple to change his opinions so easily through such things as simple debate. However, he may think Flynn does more around Luceti than Flynn himself actually does. He thinks he patrols around and is one of the main people to keep peace in Luceti and protect the people, against criminals and other bad guys. In actuality he just patrols around... patrolling.
Luffy's not 100% positive about Flynn's abilities, as he is always so secretive, claiming to be a normal knight, when he actually has a lot of abilities a "normal" knight wouldn't have, or atleast not in most worlds. So he tries to sometimes guess what his possible abilities can be, most of the time ending up being wrong. When it comes to the kind of allies Luffy can honestly trust in a life or death situation to have his back, Flynn ranks as one of the highest ones in Luceti.
However when Luffy entrusted Nami's life to Flynn and she still ended up being attacked and injured anyway, Luffy lost some faith in Flynn and their friendship. But Luffy's a very forgiving person so all of that has been forgiven at this point. Recently Luffy was turned into viking!Luffy during the AU event and Luffy has felt nothing short of guilt since then. Chances are he'll apologize to Flynn the next time they speak.

"She's always worried or paranoid about stuff. She should relax more!"
Meryl was Luffy's second real friend Luceti. They met when she was cooking for a festival, and he consequently he ate a huge amount of her food. But this is where he started to like her cooking. Sure it wasn't as good at Sanji's, but it got the job done. And over time he started not to take as much of a notice to that fact. Since she was so nice, he promised her one day that he would break the barrier and free her so she could see her nakama again, but he still hasn't been able to do that because the freaking barrier is so stubborn. But hopefully she will be able to wait for him a little longer so he can get stronger and finally do it. His first Christmas here he gave her a locket. He wasn't sure what to give her at first, but with that she would be able to keep a picture of her and her nakama in it. So maybe she wouldn't miss home.
Luffy tends to think she doesn't really have enough fun. And in a sense, she's even worse than Flynn in some areas because she only seems to really come out when she needs stuff. Flynn goes out patrolling all the time. Back at home, all his friends enjoyed having parties and stuff, even if it was to sit back and smile at the festivities (Robin) but Meryl seems to be more into a relaxed and calm environment. Something Luffy isn't quite used to in his nakama. But still he considers her a very nice friend. Not quite as fussy as Nami, but not exactly as "in the background" as Robin either.
Sick!Meryl: Meryl usually gets sick atleast once during the cold seasons. So Luffy takes it upon himself to rush over and bring soup for her on occasion since she's too sick to really do much. Unlike Nami, she would probably be more annoyed with the childish faces and other things, and most likely wouldn't laugh, so Luffy doesn't tend to do this for her. She gets off easier in this department.

"Kirimi is so smart! She should be a detective!"
Kirimi is perhaps his youngest friend in Luceti. She's only 4 years old, but Luffy thinks she's really smart, and at times, she has even been more competent than Luffy in some areas. He thinks she'd make an excellent detective or some other kind of person who's really smart. He's also fairly overprotective of her. Matter of fact, if anyone tried to harm her, it'd probably upset him more than any other of his nakama. She's almost like a little sister to him, and he would kick the ass of anyone who'd try to harm her in anyway.
He has fun hanging out with Kirmi. Luffy acts much like a child and she is a child so it fits perfectly. But while, he does like having her here, he feels she needs to be home. Yes she has Vavalis here, but she needs her family and friends here. She's only a child. She shouldn't be trapped in a place like this. And that alone adds fuel to the fire to how much he really wants to kick the Malnosso's asses. For bringing a little kid like her to Luceti.
biteoffherhead "She acts mean all the time, but she's really nice!"
When Luffy first met Moro she has a bullet wound in her chest and was insanely stubborn about going to the doctor. She said she refused to let humans operate or even TOUCH her. For her own good Luffy got into a fight with her to try and take her to the clinic by force. While he could've maybe knocked her out if he had used more force, this wasn't going to help her any. So instead Luffy decided to follow her around to make sure she didn't die or something. Of course it wasn't ALL the time. Just here and there. Moro would always talk about killing people. Hell, she even talked about killing HIM a few times. But he understands why. The humans in her world are jerks, and so she doesn't trust anybody who's human. She doesn't even like most humans strictly because of the fact that they're human. He can't really blame her, but despite her hatred of people she carried him home when he wasn't able to himself. And said she'd help him hunt which could possibly be a way to stop his nakama from being kidnapped. Now, she claims that this is for her own benefit and she's just using him to get stronger and possibly stop the Malnosso, but still. It meant a lot to Luffy. And because of that incident he started looking at her as a true friend. Besides he doesn't believe she's as bad of a person as she claims to be.
Sometimes he tries to plant seeds in the forest for more trees to grow since she loves it so much, but he utterly fails at this, pouring too many seeds into one hole (sounds like a good Friday night, I know). Since the forest is Moro's treasure, he considers it his treasure as well and won't like it if anyone tries to defile it or harm it in anyway. Same with Moro's daughter, San. No one better not touch her or he'd be on their case about it. He used to have worries that Moro might actually eat people but after hearing that the sun goddess said she couldn't he could relax a bit more about it..
aero_dienamic "Ah. She's that wind lady."
Luffy doesn’t know a whole lot about Valvalis despite the fact that he has known her for quite a while in Luceti. He knows that she isn’t exactly human and has wind powers, but that’s pretty much the extent of his knowledge about her. She also is the one who’s like a mother figure to Kirimi, so she gets nakama points for being such a nice person to one of his good friends.
goldenglasses "Vash is really funny! But Bash would've been cooler!"
Luffy had been a little worried about Meryl. He knew exactly what it was like to live alone without his nakama being there with him. He had finally got the nakama he wanted in Luceti, but Meryl was still alone. He was going to ask her to move in with them if she wanted but then Vash arrived. He was a friend from Meryl’s world that she seem very fond of so Luffy was happy he came here. Now Meryl would have someone to keep her company, and lately Luceti has started to become a dangerous place to be in, so living alone is not a good idea. Luffy actually has a lot of fun with Vash. He’s no where near as uptight as Meryl, and will usually play along in some of Luffy’s games or pranks.
The only real problem is that Luffy doesn’t see his goal of world peace as being something achievable. Matter of fact, there’s no such thing as a perfect world with everyone living in peace. His ideals are nothing more than airheaded dreams at best, and blatant broken record statements at worse. He understands why Vash wants world peace, matter of fact he reminds Luffy of Vivi. They both want to save everyone, but sometimes there just isn’t a way to do that. Luffy wants to help Vash get stronger so that he WILL have the power to defeat Yuber next time.
