If by the 'official version' you mean the 'unofficial bootleg with subtitles from Hong Kong'.

Despite the fact that what you got came in a nice case, official Japanese releases don't often feature English subtitles. DVD sets that you buy on the internet, particularly from Ebay, come from companies in Hong Kong that rip the video from the Japanese DVDs, and add their own subtitles to market it to America.

So, beware in the future.

I guess by official version I meant "the only DVD you can get that's out there and not on a DVD-R"
