Just thought I'd pass on a cool article:

It seeks to put metrics around a fact that many of us realize in the backs of our minds but don't want to admit: All the bells and whistles and coolest, latest tech hasn't really improved a damn thing. It just made everything more complicated.

It's an important point to illustrate. Software design is very much driven by "can we do it?" rather than "should we do it?" Eye candy is easy to point to as way to "prove" product X is better than product Y. Even if product Y is faster, more efficient, and actually makes you more productive.

Also, there are many days when I'd be happy to trade it all for my C-64 and a copy of Sid Meier's "Pirates." Simpler times...
