Alex woke up and looked at the clock. 10:36, well after school started, she could just say she was getting things for her latest effort as Vice President, it wasn't that big of a deal. She took a deep breath. Tuesday.
It wasn't just that there wouldn't be Jay. It was that when she got home she would return to the land of unpaid bills, screaming, and violence. Jay's was a safe place, it was their place and although the violence never effected her directly, her mother's boyfriends didn't appreciate it when she stood up for her mother. She looked back at Jay, sleeping soundly and let out a deep breath. Tuesday came too soon. Alex changed into a different outfit and crawled into bed next to Jay, her face resting on his chest and slung her arm around his waist. She lay next to him until she could feel her eyes closing agan and whispered, "I have to go." in his ear as she kissed his cheek and ran a hand through his hair. He protested with a grunt and a little smile but she pretended not to notice.
It only took a short walk for her to get home where she took a quick shower, quick because the hot water was shut off again. As she pulled her shirt over her head, she heard a thump from another room. Alex cautiously pulled her door open and made her way to the top of the stairs. "Steve? Where's my mother?" She asked down the stairs. It was the last thing she said before everything went black.
