For those not in the loop, the Minuteman Project is a militia of private citizens who are taking posts along the Mexican border in Cochise County to watch out for illegal border crossers and then call the Border Patrol. So far they've had great success with no allegations of abuse ( Read more... )

Can you explain how this story shows moral and political bankruptcy on the part of anyone?
I'm not being argumentative, just trying to understand how you came to this conclusion. :)

I think what he means is that if the best the left can do is ring the alarm bells over a criminal being given twenty bucks and having his photo taken with a t-shirt maybe theyve got their priorities a bit skewed.

Or, he means that their concern over the photographing outweighs the concern over the fact the guy being photographed was committing a criminal act.

Not sure, myself.

The moral bankruptcy of the Left requires only objective evaluation of the evidence. The Soviet Union was the epitome of the political goals of the Left. People were using the phrase "moral bankruptcy" to describe the Soviet Union for 70 years while the American Left continued to defend the Soviet way of life. Then came the collapse, and all the evidence from inside the Evil Empire that proved all the claims being made from the outside ( ... )

Well, according to the Left, economic force is the same as physical force. So paying someone $20 to pose for a photograph really is kind of like imprisoning them.

haha, the Left is dumb.

What are these minutemen really about? The little that I've heard (on LA's alternative music station's morning show) is that they want to keep illegal immigrants out, 'cause they don't like 'em!

Of the folks who travelled from California and other parts of the country, undoubtedly some just don't like illegal immigrants. One Cuban immigrant who lives in California was interviewed on NPR talking about the dilution of American culture by Mexican-Americans.

But the reason why it's a big thing in Cochise County is because of the destruction of private property and threat to the lives of the residents. These smugglers are really nasty people, and they are directly responsible for a lot of deaths of illegals. Hundreds die in the desert because a smuggler says "walk that way, and when you get tired take these pills" (amphetamines).

Others die or get seriously injured in accidents, such as the Ford F-150 that had a blowout because of the weight the truck was carrying, and 37 of the 41 children riding in the bed were injured. Yes, you heard me, 41 kids jammed into the back of a regular-sized pickup truck with an eight-foot bed.
