You know.. It could possibly have something to do with your new litter box.. Did he ever use it? It is kind of tricky, maybe you could put some cat nip in it from the ceiling and encourage him to use it.
Mimi did the same thing in our first apartment. Only thing that worked: get a spray bottle, fill it with a VERY LIGHT vinegar and water mixture (not too strong or it'll make you insane, but enough so the cat can smell it) and spray EVERY INCH of the carpet or where said cat is peeing. Don't miss a spot, cause the stupid cat will find it and pee there. I swear, it works though. You don't have to saturate the carpet, just mist it to get the scent everywhere, and the cat will leave it alone.

the only thing is that he is peeing on clothes and blankets and stuff like that. He has yet to pee on the carpet (or he would die) so we are trying Mez's two litter box theory and so far it is working. If it fails, off to the vets to get him checked out and if all is fine, maybe they will have some suggestions. Thanks for the help!

As long as it doesn't turn into what Steve and Lori had to put up with... their cat Kiska would not use a dirty litter box, he would crap right next to it in spite... so in their family room, they had 5, count them 5, litter boxes for two cats. It was ridiculous.

Get extra litter boxes, even if it's temporary. If that doesn't help after a week or so, take your cat to a vet and ask some questions.
