Private to self
It feels good to be "getting away from it all" as it were. Today I apparated to inverness and caught a bus from there north, I just wanted to watch the countryside, and I'm not exactly licensed to be riding my broom at 90 miles an hour up the M1. There's been plenty of light snow and when we stopped for tea in a small village late this afternoon I went skating with some of the locals on a frozen dam. Even I have a hard time telling what they're saying (the local accent being what it is), I even spent some time with a woman about my age and we shared a drink in the pub before I had to hit the road again. It was nice to be a total stranger to someone for once. I'd thought about dropping in at Loch Ness, but maybe on my way back. For now I'm staying in the Orkney islands for a few days, I guess people come here all the time to disappear if the size of the hotel here is any indication.
Private to Terry and Padma
I'm staying waaaaaaay up north for a few days, it's cold and snowing constantly, and the hotel is warm and has a great resturaunt. I was speaking to the manager, and he said people are always coming up this way to just get some peace, I can see why. Cool air, frozen seas, nothing much to do but sit inside and do a lot of thinking. Good thing I've got plenty of books and writing to do. I'm going to go down to the town tomorrow and look around. I spent an hour or so in inverness this morning, then I caught the bus further north. I enjoyed being on the outside looking in, all the families, cheeks flushed from the cold, and broad smiles in anticipation of the coming holiday. I'm enjoying just being an observer, no pressures, no demands, I can finally relax after two years of holding my breath.
I'll get you a little something if there's anything appropriate around here, and I'll write again soon, I promise.
