IT HATH BEEN AGES SINCE THIS DAMN THING WAS UPDATED

Jun 20, 2008 08:33

LAST TIME I announced Jeri's new purchase of a vehicle, had a contest for a name, and gave updates as to the baby.

Well, let's update you all on the car first.

Apparently, the little guy didn't stop having leaky problems. Fixed once, Jeri found herself having to return to the store AGAIN to have it fixed, all within the first two weeks of owning it. They found the weather stripping to be faulty, so they had to completely remove the entire sunroof and replace everything.

Because the car had to spend so much of its early life in the shop, they decided to throw in around $550 worth of accessories.

And as soon as Jeri drove it home, we had a name.

That's right, bitches. "Bennie." (And, yes, I realize "Benny the Cab" is spelled differently, but parts of the Mini's name are derived from its theme song, "Bennie and the Jets" by Sir Elton John.)

Also, you can't see it from the photo (I had to cheat and build a new Mini model at work, since I don't have the digital camera here), but the door handles and the sunroof are checkered, also. Jeri may even get checkered valve stems for the tires before she's done driving the thing.

And it's been mistaken for its namesake on more than one occasion ... even by people with whom she works, who had called for a cab and saw her pull into work, thinking their ride had arrived.

I'd like to thank you all for participating. Since no one eventually guessed the correct name, I suppose all of you have equal opportunity to take a spin in Bennie when you come out to visit (though Frankenstein might get a little jealous).

IN OTHER NEWS

We have a new member of our growing family. Molly (AKC name "Don's Hot Teh-Molly") is our new miniature dachshund who lives in the backyard, digging up holes for no apparent reason and tearing up anything she can get her teeth or paws into.

(Again, because I don't have the digital camera, I had to find a close approximation. "Heidi" here is pretty close to Molly's current size and coloration, though Molly doesn't have the long hair on the ears.)

Recently, Molly was responsible for tearing up instructions to our new backyard pool.

(Again, etc.)

Our pool is quite uneven due to alternating rocky/sandy/clay soil in our yard (gee, thanks, Oklahoma), so we actually have a "shallow" end and a "deep" end to a round 4' deep pool. My parents, who were up these past two days, actually had a rather good suggestion of draining the pool and digging spaces for flat rocks which would sit level in the ground and could support each pipe in the metal framework, so we might be working on that soon.

That aside, it's the moment you've all been waiting for:

PREGNANCY UPDATE

We're almost 28 weeks into the pregnancy, and show no signs of slowing. The baby's coming along fantastically, and the nursery's almost completely painted. It's going to be a bright almost-yellow with a hint of green in it called "Citron" by the people at Behr. In fact, it's the same color as depicted in this showcase of the nursery set we picked out:

Oh, and it's a boy.

"Cameron Michael Ford" is already causing enough grief in his mother. Just this morning, she awoke with a foot to the bladder. But, I've already warned him that because he won't leave his poor mother alone, he's going to get spanked as soon as he enters the world (AND DON'T TELL HIM IT'S GOING TO HAPPEN ANYWAY ... DAMN IT).

I guess that's all I need to update!

Oh... we are having a pool. The due date is September 13 still, and the baby was 2.5 lbs at last weigh-in, putting him in the 58th percentile of baby weight.

Should you wish to participate in the pool, please respond to the poll below. Closest to correct date-of-birth and weight at birth receives a free trophy for closest guess.
