wow, this is a FANTASTIC tutorial! i'm... i can't believe i'm about to admit this but i never knew you could just select a portion of background and scale it upwards. i mean OKAY i guess i KNOW THAT'S A THING YOU CAN DO but it never occurs to me when i'm actually making icons that i could just do that and save myself a lot of grief with the smudge and cloning tools.

ooh speaking of cloning i am just mesmerized by what you did with that image of the swimming elephant. THAT LOOKS SO AWESOME? HOW?

anyway yeah thanks a ton for this tutorial! it was fabulousss :3

No, that makes sense. We all have our ways of making icons, especially the things we do to prepare our base. That's why I love guides by icon makers that talk about their own process. Picking other people's brains in a non-creepy way. ;)

The swimming elephant was such an amazing image from The Fall and I was surprised at how easy it was to create the negative space of the water. It looks more difficult than it was, trust me. :)

You're welcome - and thank you for your lovely comment!

This is great. Haven't done any icons in a couple of years at least, but I love negative space with a passion.
