You had asked me to play games with you and I smiled, nodding as I sat down my book and followed
after you.
You had told me a joke and I laughed as loud as I could, even if it really wasn’t all that funny.
You had cried in pain from your injury and I sat there with you, letting you use my shoulder.
When I had asked you to play games with me, you said that you were busy as you messed with your
phone.
When I had told you a joke in hopes of getting you to smile, you just stared at me before walking away.
When I had cried myself to sleep for no apparent reason, you left me alone in the dark.
Now you play with her as I stand back, dreaming.
Now you mock hyenas with her as I look away, letting the tears fall as I smile too.
Now you are always happy and have no need for my comfort, never noticing me as I collapse and hug
myself.
No one notices the tears.
No one sees through the smiling mask, even as it chips away with the rest of me.
No one notices and no one cares as I wither away to dust.
