Hook, reading again [open] and some OOC

*Contrary to appearances, he hasn't left, nor become a hermit, nor died in some freak seafaring accident (probably involving cross-offshore winds). He's currently to be found holed up in his Nexus room, reading Rilke and looking absurdly content*

Timeless sea breezes,
sea-wind of the night:
you come for no one;
if someone should wake,
he must be ( Read more... )

There is a familiar knocking at the door.

Behind the door, and the knocking, is a pale and bandaged Ali. Something really went to town on her shoulder there. She looks a little nervous, in the "planning a surprise party and worried about getting caught" manner.

*He looks up: puts a thumb in his book and rises, crossing to the door to open it*

Ali waves with her good hand and gives him an apologetic smile. "I hope I'm not bothering you?"

*His eyes flare wide in surprise at her condition, darting assessingly over bandage and pallor. Yes, she can still affect him like that: protectiveness roars up in the set of his jaw as he clenches his teeth*

Not at all...come in...whatever has occurred?

I love Jesus...

He got up, chastised them, and told the winds to be calm. And they did.

...eloquent if somewhat baffling, Mr Henshaw.

I must admit you had not previously struck me as a man of faith.

It is the notion that matters.

Elizabeth has an awful lot to do, in the weeks before her vacation. There's everything the girls need, usually and for summer camp, and then she has her own packing to attend to (which involves a lot more shopping than 'packing' is probably supposed to)--

Which is actually why she's in the nexus today; it is the best way of finding absolutely anything one's heart could possibly desire. With her slightly harried happiness and small, discreet packages she considers the wisdom of unannounced visitors who just happened to be passing through, and then knocks.

*Visitor. Good heavens.

It'd be nice to say he was instantly on his feet, but he reads carefully to the end of the stanza he's been perusing before getting up and cautiously going to the door, opening it a slit to frown out at the newcomer suspiciously*

Doctor. Elizabeth.

*And with that, the door is opened wider.*

An unexpected pleasure.

"I hope I'm not interrupting," she says, with a warm (if slight) smile. "I was in the area and thought I'd stop by." Truly! This month is becoming very spontaneous.

Not at all.

*He still has the book in his good hand: with it, he gestures her inside, into the candle-lit warmth of the room*

I was merely reading.

Hans had been most surprised when, upon checking upon Ali, he had been unable to find her. It is only because he knew that she would chastise him should she have found out, that he was able to summon the willpower to keep from berating the servants for allowing her to wander off unobserved.

Though truthfully, he had informed them to obey her as they would him, so it was perhaps less of a surprise that she could so elude them.

None of which did anything to relieve his concern for her. He had practically turned his home upside down looking for her, until he was forced to admit that she was not there. Which meant, more than likely, that she had wandered into the Nexus somewhere. There were little signs here and there, that might have shown where she was, and Hans was nothing if not observant, though a bit surprised when the trail did, in fact, lead him to a door.

He raps on it perhaps a bit more forcefully, a bit more urgently, than he had intended, but what is done is done.

*When suddenly there came a tapping, as of something gently...

...well, actually, as of something quite forcefully rapping at Hook's chamber door. His brow furrows. He's not usually this popular.*

Excuse me.

*This in a murmur to Ali, as he slides out from beside her and pads over to the door, barefoot*

Ali makes a little sound of consent, sitting up enough for him to get out from under her before curling up. It continues to confound her that he dislikes the sofa so very much. She finds it quite comfortable. Maybe it's because she's nicer to it than he is?

She watches James and the door, curious about the new visitor, while she contemplates the mysteries of the sofa.

Ah, the good Captain. Hans had met him briefly had Ali's birthday party, but that had been some time ago.

"Hello, Herr Kapitän," he says. "Forgive my disturbing you... but I seem to have misplaced Ali and what signs I could find pointed in this direction."
