Did you guys see the same movie I did?

I am horribly, HORRIBLY disappointed in Serenity. It sucked. Mightily.

EDIT: I'm making this post public because, thanks to partywhipple, I've discovered that there are a lot of Firefly fans out there that agree with me, and they want to read my critique. So here it is.

WARNING: BIG-ASS SPOILERS + RANT. )

Since you made a comment and want some feedback I will try to do so in stages as I have time. Monster Fest is this weekend and I'm booked solid. I'll try to come up with my opinion in writing and post it in pieces.

I'd really like to hear what you have to say about it. Get to it when you can.

Yeah this put together some annoyances I had about the characters too. I was willing to forgive them while watching because it's Firefly and I love the characters. But now I am not. This movie was seriously a slap in the face of Firefly fans. And it annoys me to no end that Whedon is getting away with it like Lucas does with his crappy Star Wars films.

Obviously, I'm with you. I just don't understand why Joss totally rewrote the backstory, failed to give the characters depth and made horrible choices with dialogue. I was SPITTING mad when I got out of the theater Saturday; I came straight home and wrote this post, I was so mad. You're honestly the first person who has agreed with me.

I haven't read the Serenity/Firefly comics yet, but I know that Joss can write a hell of a story. I just don't think he should be making movies.

I might take my ticket stub over to Velocity and pick up the comics ... thanks for the tip! I might as well make my ticket stub good for something. :)

You wrote this post ages ago, but for some reason I just stumbled upon it, and i thought I'd add this amusing tidbit. Since it sounds like we could all use amusing tidbits these days.

Joss hasn't ever written a successful movie. He's really, really bad at it. And when his movies don't go the way he likes it, he blames it on the actors.

Always. Nuffy, Titan AE, Aliens. He always always always blames it on the actors.

And people can say "Well he did good with ToyStory. But he really didn't have much to do with that screenplay (which was actually written by 3 other people).

I finally got around to watching Firefly and did enjoy it, despite really not liking westerns (and admittedly it did follow the western genre for me to *really* get into Firefly), but yeah Serenity was abysmal.

So I really wonder, given the general consensus from EVERYONE is that Serenity really sucked hard. How he's going to pin it on the actors that he seemed to have a lot of faith in.

I agree that Joss can't write movies. And he *does* blame everyone else. He should stick to TV.

I hate Westerns, but I loved Firefly. Go figure.

And great to see you back on ElJay! I was reading your other blog, but then you made it friends-only and I didn't want to sign up for another blog site.

We need to get together!

Yeah, Joss. Can write some great TV. But he's such a weenie. It really makes me sad. I want to like him, but damn, what a prick.

Firefly knew when to break genre conventions which I think is why it succeeded.

Yeah that old blog went friends lock when I was finished with it. I've been on this LJ for a while but I didn't think you LJ'd anymore and you dropped off the radar so i was like "ah well, she'll pop up someday" and So you did. On RVA no less.

I almost made snarky comments to your post, but I couldn't really think of anything and then I realized it was you and I felt bad about wanting to continue my reign of terror on RVA/VCU for that particular post.

:P

We do. But you never holla.
