I'm glad you are alright.

At least you didn't lose the wiper while it was on, that happened to me when I lived in MN(it was the drivers side too).

At least the roads were wet enough that the spray from the car in front of me wet the windshield enough to wipe it off before it got impossible to see.

But, yeah, definitely not recommended.
