Good Luck Charm: An Explanation

Nov 23, 2007 22:39

You're going to notice that our style is a bit different from most of the RPGs you may be accostumed to. We want you to be prepared.

If you should have any questions/comments/concerns about what is going on in the RPG or anything else please visit goodluck_ooc and post about it.

====================================

'Good Luck Charm' is going to be played out in chapters. This is something I don't think we've ever seen in RPs around livejournal before.

Every chapter is going to focus on a plot development and it's up to all the players to flesh it out and take it where they want it. Only Moxi and I are allowed to start new chapters. (Note: A chapter is different from a thread. Read the rules on our profile for details.)

All chapters will begin like this:

Chapter #: Chapter Title Here

Who: Who is in this chapter. This does not necessarily mean that all the characters are together when the chapter starts. People might show up later on in the chapter as the story progressess. It's up to you.
What: What plot point occurs. This is just going to be a general thing. A 'prompt' if you want to think of it that way. You do what you want with it.
When: The approximate date. We're all on the same timeline here, so there is no room for confusion.
Where: The Location(s) of all characters when the chapter starts. Again, to avoid confusion.
Why: The reason this thread is being played out.

We do it this way because it is much easier/more fun to RP when everyone knows:

a) The timeline.

There are RPs out there where a couple of characters are in October and then in other threads it miraculously becomes the day before Christmas. This is rude and not to mention stupid.

b) The location of the other characters.

It is impossible for a person to be in two places at one time. So why do so many RPGs think this is ok? How can you be having a conversation with your best friend in one thread and then you're having a huge argument with that same person in another place and at the same time? This causes confusion and drama.

c) What point in the plot the RPG is.

Yes, the characters like to interact, but endless threads with no plot development aren't what we want. We want to create an interesting story, not wander aimlessly. When the plot is not clear people just start to ramble, or worse still, stop RPing all together.

Trust me. These are the three biggest problems with most RPGs out there, and we would love to avoid them. Every chapter depends on the chapter before it so it's very much still in the players hands what happens next, we're just keeping it organized.
