You never got to see Halloween in Blue Crow. Some ambitious group of people would dot the streets with costumed snow statues ever year, candy bags in their arms. I used to donate to the cause on my way to work: put something sweet in each bag.

I never knew who was reaping the benefit, but the statues were always gone by the next morning. A little different from the types of celebrations we had on Mars.

I'm sorry I missed it.

Most of the men I met there didn't exactly seem the type to go to that kind of effort.

I think it might have been the girls. Julius and her crew, but I never did satisfy my curiosity on that one.

Julius.

It could have been. They did seem to have free time on their hands.

Balloons! Good to hear that they aren't just for Thanksgiving.

How are you, Julia?

Halloween did seem like a bigger production than Thanksgiving the last time I was on Mars for either. Are you a fan of balloons?

I'm... not bad. How are you?

I think they're fun even if they don't last very long. My sister likes them more.

I'm fine, thank you. I got to watch the truth and daring.

You have a sister?

I haven't played anything like that since I was a teenager. I didn't mind not being affected.

Is it?

It was brief, if not novel.

What was Mars like for you?

Well, I liked calling it home more than I liked living on Earth.

With all of the climate control Mars has, you can start to miss Earth's natural weather patterns, but at least you could live on the surface of Mars without the daily risk of rock showers.

It's an old Earth tradition. You're not familiar with it?

Children get dressed in costumes and go from door to door with bags for collecting candy. We call it that because "trick or treat" is what they usually say when people open their doors.
