Graze Box #1

Feb 23, 2013 22:11

Hello! It has been forever since I last used LJ. I thought I'd start again.

I first heard of Graze through a friend. She tweeted about subscribing, and I got curious. As I looked further into it, I was fortunate enough to find an invite code that worked (since they are in beta mode, sign ups are through invite only).

Concept is $5 a box, and they can deliver once a week, every two weeks, or every four weeks. So, maximum cost is $20 a month. I've chosen to receive one every week to check it out. I've been trying to eat healthier, and these little treats can help tide me over until lunch and dinner. They are also great in fiber and low in calories. You rate the treats and whichever one you like, it will be sent to you again in a future box. Whichever you don't like, it will never be sent again.

The British Barbecue
My favorite treat from this box. It contains mini basil baguettes, rosemary crostini, smoked almonds and seeds. I love crunchy textures, and this one definitely fits the bill. My first bite felt that if I ate a lot, it would be salty, but surprisingly, it isn't the saltiest of the four treats. As I kept grabbing for more, saltiness did not become an issue.

Summer Berry Compote
This would've been my favorite, but I'm just not a big fan of berry compotes. I love fresh berries of most variety, but when it is cooked down and reduced with a little bit of sugar, turning into a jam-like substance, the sweetness and the sourness seems so much more pronounced that it takes wipes out whatever it is paired with. The shortbread is great by itself. I feel like I could've eaten more, but with the compote, the compote is all I taste.

Yin & Yang
It contains blanched almonds, jumbo raisins, dark chocolate buttons, and cherries (dried).  I like the jumbo raisins and dark chocolate buttons, while the blanched almonds and the dried cherries. The blanched almonds don't have any flavor, while the dried cherries have the same sweetness and sourness that I complained about with the berry compote. Chocolate and raisins are always a great combination, and having the chocolate as a dark chocolate is always a plus!

Hot Cross Yum
I don't like to say it, but this is the one treat that I asked never to be sent to me again. It contains orange raisins, sponge pieces, and cinnamon honey almonds. I get the concept of it being something like the flavor of a cinnamon bun, but just reading "orange raisins" made me weary. Another thing I'm not a big fan of is anything candied that is orange-flavored. To me, the flavor just overpowers with its sweetness and sourness. The orange raisins and the cinnamon honey almonds were just too strong of flavors for me.

Overall, I am quite satisfied with the box. I can't wait to try out the next one!

Hopefully this is the start of blogging again for me. *fingers crossed*
