My thoughts on Merlin S1 (spoilers - goes without saying)

So I just got done watching Merlin.  One ep a day, so basically under a fortnight I'm through with the series.  I have to say, its really grown on me.  I thought the first few eps, with a couple of exceptions took more than their sweet time to take off, and felt a little too repetetive to me.  A case of formulaic, lather-rinse-repeat, basically.  ( Read more... )

Yeah, I don't see too much Gwen/Merlin either. I thought all the flirtation that was going on in 1x03 was cute and all (aww, purple flowers), but I definitely don't see either party being romantically interested in each other. And I think the kiss they shared in 1x04 was the most chaste, non-romantic, sweet kiss I've seen. (I'm also amused that that was pretty much the only kissing we got to see in the first season between any of the core characters. Talk about staying away from relationship drama ( ... )

Oh, absolutely. I guess it's a show of restraint that Morgana doesn't actually go to Arthur for help, haha. In her state of mind, I think anything could've been possible. But I love, love, love that in her head, she's doing what's right and necessary for the good of Camelot. Revenge, but with noble intentions. Is there any such thing? :)

I'm also amazed, like you said, by how she changes her mind the minute Uther expresses regret over what he's done. To her, it's ALL about that one thing; she doesn't think further than that. She's impetuous, she's very spontaneous and that makes her extremely dangerous. I can see her turning against Arthur if he ended up doing something she thought was wrong. I love that ambiguity about her.

Gwen, on the other hand, is as steady and consistent as can be, and that's one of her best qualities. And for these two girls to be as close as they are while having such polar opposite personalities ... it speaks volumes about how much they really care for each other.

Okay, first off? I'm so glad you're watching this show too. What's that now, THREE shows we share in common? AWESOME. :D

So I wanted to sit and reply to every point on this post because I think I pretty much agree with everything here, but then I realized I made a whole post about this that could easily serve as a comment, so I figured I would just link it here and leave it at that.

Did I mention I'm glad you're watching this show? BECAUSE I AM. \o/

The Merlin / Arthur dynamic is fantastic. So entertaining and yet full of genuine affection and respect.

//As much as I want to smack Uther at times I appreciate his character. He helps balance the mix and keeps things from being overly saccharine if you know what I mean.//

::nods:: Definitely.

//I wonder how he'll fit into the next season.//

I'm actually quite curious about this myself. I think he's probably going to have a bone to pick with Merlin now so things could get interesting.
