I don't know, maybe I'm getting it wrong? But the vibe I got from that scene was that he's decided to show Zod other sides of Earth /the human race, take a different approach, thereby setting him up on a non-evil path.
//Though, I'll disagree with you on one thing. I didn't think Lois made a lot of sense in the future with her reactions to Clark.//
You have a point. I still think though that if I were to offer some leeway here, it'd probably be just about understanding where Lois was coming from. Clark' side didn't make any sense at all though.
I'm beginning to think the Alia stuff was rewritten too. They probably wrote that then didn't know what to do with it or where to go with it, so they just dropped it.
//Good point about the lack of mention of anyone not in this episode. Thats lame.//
This especially bothered me because these people could have been relevant in the context of the ep. But nope, nothing. Typical for the SV writers though - out of sight, out of mind.
Its tricky for me, because I WANT to like this episode so much that part of me just wants to turn off my critical thinking. But then I think of the Clark characterization and my blood starts to boil. I cannot abide two things. The most important is that I will never forgive the show if they're setting Clark up for failure again with Zod but like you, I have problems imagining Clark truly being able to stop him with this approach. The best we can hope for is that Clark pulls a lot of Zod's lackeys over to his side so when the confrontation does come, it will be more even handed

I completely understand turning off one's critic from time to time. I do it too. And some eps merit it, so why not go with the flow. But for me, an ep that botches up Clark this badly just can't get a free pass of any kind. I find that I'm a lot more tolerant of eps, if they do right by Clark - even if the eps themselves aren't that great.

I'll be more OK with this whole thing if it in fact is shown that Clark has some sort of plan, other than merely trying to appeal to Zod' good side.
//Maybe I'll fanwank it as Clark not wanting to reveal too much of his secret at that point, which meant he couldn't discuss Doomsday with her.//
Heh, that's actually not a bad fanwank. But I still hate the whole thing. I really hate the writers sometimes, honestly. Because I so often feel as if Clark is their very least favorite character to write for.
In the flashbacks, or future visions (future!backs?) we have a Clark Kent who has cut himself off from everybody including Chloe and Oliver - and guess what. It's because he's such an asshole. Yup, he doesn't want to not see them because they were lying cheating sorry excuses for 'friends' last year, nope. He cut himself off because of Lois. "It's not their fault." Clark "turned his back" on them. Hate! Because here we actually have a valid reason for Clark, as a person in who he is, going emptionally MIA, but none of those reasons were allowed to be considered legitimate. YES!!! That scene really bugs. They had the perfect chance to deal with the aftermath of Oliver & Chloe's actions from last season and it gets dropped.
As of 'Doomsday' while Clois had grown extremely close, certainly, that intense romantic bond that formed this year especially from Clark' side, wasn't there. So while I can understand Lois' emotional state since we know she's been in love with him since early S8, I didn't underatand Clark'. This was a huge issue

//There's no need to re-write how they felt about each other then. The relationship is strong enough.//
And both the above perfectly help illustrate one of the SV writers greatest weakness - their inability to strike balance. Either they'll completely drop a storyline or they'll ram it home to ad nauseum.
Speaking of Lana and others who failed to be mentioned - I'll just add MM to that list too.
