I'm glad the episode didn't bore you. I have to confess that it did bore me terribly. I didn't care about the Chloe/Tess scenes and the Zod scenes were soooo looong. They never seemed to end! It's sad but, watching the episode, I realized I really don't care much about the Checkmate or the Kandorians storylines anymore. And why does this show have to be so dark! I miss those scenes where you actually could see other colors apart from the perennial grey and black.
I think I can guess that other major apprehension that's bothering you. I feel the same way.
The episode worked for me but didn't have me doing happy dances. It just felt relentlessly grim and I prefer my show when it has those flashes of humour. I enjoyed what little of Clark there was and Faora, whose last scene was so very poignant. I also thought it was a great episode for Zod, with his threat to destroy the world if he thought his soldiers were betraying him. *shiver* I'm actually feeling a bit optimistic about the last two episodes, if only because of the change in the Clark-Ollie dynamics.
Unfortunately no ep recently has had me doing happy dances, so I suppose I'm just taking whatever good I can get from each one.

My reaction too. I thought CB did a great job with that scene too, and Zod' threat really ::meant:: something since we know what he's capable of, and can be capable of.
Do you think the change in the Clark / Ollie dynamic is here to stay though or just a glorious flash in the pan? I sincerely hope the former!
I have much love for that first Clark / Ollie scene, because for a change, we didn't have to witness Clark grovelling and apologising his way through while the other participant continues to jackass their way through. Instead, we had a Clark who was concerned at the problem at hand, and was there to talk the situation over with Oliver, but clearly wasn't going to be needlessly bashed. The show so often makes it out as if the whole world' suffered, but Clark, and that it's Clark who's wronged everyone else while nobody's ever done anything to him - that color me surprised and pleased, when we got to hear Clark tell Oliver "I know what you're capable of" and warn him against "threatening everything" he's "worked for" and standing tall and asserting for a change for things to be handled "my way. Yes! It was so nice to see Clark assert himself. Kudos to Justin if that was his scene - I've been waiting for a scene like that a long time.

I agree about the coldness, wrt Chloe. I do think, in part, it could be an acting choice, but just look at the writing as well. It's all to blame, really.
You're right about Zod' manipulations and actually that's been one of the consistent traits they've kept with his character throughout. So, yeah, points for consistency.
This wasn't a bad ep by any means, IMO, and yet, I can't seem to muster up too much enthusiasm.
THIS. It's like, I know I'm watching a good episode but I can't be bothered to care. And I really felt the lack of Clark but I loved what we did get. I think I'm letting the fact that they're letting Chloe/Checkmate/Ollie be right and Clark be wrong get to me. It's bringing me down a lot.
That first Clark/Ollie scene was much needed and gives me hope that Ollie is finally on the right track.
The Clark/Faora stuff was a real highlight and I'm rather upset Clark is facing the rest of the season without her.
I kept hoping all season Zod might turn around but now I can't wait for him to be gone. He disgusted me this episode.
And it was nice that we had Stuart, or 'Agent Campbell' back, but sort of random, no?
I didn't realize it was Stuart until about 2/3 into the episode! What did they do to him?

I did like a lot of the Clark we got in this one, so that made the ep more palatable to me. ICAM about the the right / wrong debate. I'm just bracing myself for the worst.
I was hoping the same about Zod, but you're right, he's pretty much irredeemable now.
I think back in 'Pandora', Tess injured Stuart pretty badly. Hence the eyepatch-of-seriousness-and-doom.

True. These last stretch of eps especially have seemed so visually dreary.
Carol, if it's the same thing you and I are worried about? Let me tell you, I am not happy about it At.All. I mean, why?!

That's exactly it. It was a long time coming so I appreciated it that much more.
//Tom is such a great physical actor and it worked so well as a quiet moment in the middle of all the frenzy.//
It was, wasn't it. And ITA, TW really shone here.
