Great review!

I think Martha as Red Queen worked for the reasons you stated. Her reasoning makes sense but I wasn't happy with her methods and her intention to keep it from Clark. I'll always be disturbed by the lengths people go to protect Clark. If it's not something I'd want him to do (mind torture someone) then it's certainly not something I'd want someone to do in the name of "protecting" him. Even his mom.

The Clois breakup was sloppily written. I've come to terms with how it played out, but yes, it does seem like Lois gave up on her "one and only" easily. I take comfort in the fact that she said she didn't want to run away from her problems. I'm hoping that meant her problems with Clark. PLEASE let her mean that?

And Lois was DEFINITELY suspicious of that note from the Blur (and I agree it was Zod). So I'm hoping she stays suspicious when she meets him.

It wasn't even that it was just sloppy, which it was. It was downright disrespectful to the otherwise solid Clois foundation we've been getting for a while now, not to mention Lois' character too. It's like the writers have suddenly decided that they just have to do that damn triangle nonsense - so to hell with Clois, Clark or Lois development up until now.

I hope you're right about Lois not buying in to the note being from the Blur. I really, really hope so.

//I've never considered this angle before, and I can definitely see why it doesn't work for you. But I really think it's that whole business of the Blur reconnection since "Upgrade" that threw her again off-balance in terms of her confidence and security in having a firm handle of both aspects of her life. And it also makes sense that while she has been in relationship with Clark since "Crossfire", it's also not until "Upgrade" that she had to deal with the Blur-ry element again ( ... )

really enjoyed your review. and agree with a lot of it, however and maybe this is just me but i don't think that Lois is OOC from what i understood of the episode it had been a couple of weeks since they were friend and her concern over "their" welfare was understandably. I also think that Lois' isn't as unaware as people seem to think she is I think in her heart she knows that something is up with Clark and that he's definitely holding back and i feel like alot of her behavior even subconsciously is a direct reflection of that, starting with neither using the L-word yet (taking a page out of SV writers handbook there *wink*) Also again this might just be me but their break up didn't really feel like a break up, it felt more like an argument long in the making. Martha said it best you either tell her or let her go. I'm pretty sure we all can gather at this juncture that Clark just isn't capable of staying away from Lois. About the Chloe apology thing i too feel like too little to late. It still wasn't enough I still felt like in the ( ... )

I did feel like Chloe' apology was sincere, but that it just wasn't enough. There is ::so much:: shit thats gone down now, I can't ever be in a completely good place with her character again.

Enjoyed the review! And there's so much I agree with too.

I appreciate so much, for one thing, that Clark was allowed to come to the conclusion of who the RQ was - all on his own.
Agreed, definitely. Though for me there's something icky about the final piece of that puzzle being Chloe's treatment of Clark this past season before he finally makes that connection.

And how heartbreakingly portrayed were those scenes of Martha wistfully looking at Jonathon' toolshed, or watching Perry in his jacket? AoT was simply amazing.
She is. I wish they had put her to better use while she was still a regular on the show.

Martha' love for Clark, that wonderful, glorious maternal love, came shining through and in the little things, it's sometimes even more great to see. As was the case where she's telling Clark she sleeps better knowing he has someone in his life. That was an incredibly awww inducing moment, for me.
She's so sweet. Underneath that RQ exterior, LOL.

Her unrelenting tenacity to connect the dots and get right to the bottom of it, ( ... )
