Do you think we'll see FTL travel in our lifetimes?

I doubt it. I doubt our great-grandchildren will see it in their lifetime.

it seemed like a silly question when I asked it... but you never know who's going to have an interesting/new take on the subject.

The problem is, we don't even know if mass can travel faster than light. Of course, no one who grew up on Star Trek or Star Wars wants to believe otherwise, and quantum physics doesn't rule it out, but to think that such a discovery will occur in the next sixty years seems unlikely. I'd be happy with renewable energy sources replacing fossil fuels, a manned-mission to mars and continued private sector research into space travel, since that seems to be where the most progress is being made these days.
