In May, at a Scrabble tournament, my right hearing aid went into feedback and I fiddled with the ear fitting... I think it was too deep and hurt the eardrum. I had ear infections from that and afterwards the eardrum was definitely perforated. Probably my own damn' fault.

Is Rhondda your cat, or the lady who sent you the anesthesiologist's letter?

Rhondda (the name is supposed to mean "noisy" in Welsh) is the cat. She puked on the letter from the gas-passer. The surgeon is Michelle. If I were younger and she were not married I might make a pass at her: she is seriously cute (even though currently pregnant; pregnancy does not make a woman look less beautiful to me, but makes me think twice about approaching) and seems to know what she's doing. I sure hope she does (almost certain), and that I haven't done anything to trash the repair she did (not so sure of that).

Maybe I get the Dupuytren's Contractures in my hands fixed next. The little fingers have lost most of their range of motion.

I'm with rone above: how did you rupture your eardrum?
Also, why did you choose to have surgery?

what happened, and why I went for it. gooley November 13 2009, 04:44:29 UTC
Well, I had a series of ear infections after I nicked or damaged or did whatever to the eardrum with the fitting to the hearing aid. These culminated in a quite astounding fungal infection. The fungicide was astoundingly painful to use, but seems to have worked.

Supposedly it's a good idea to have the eardrum patched. The operation is generally successful and patching the eardrum is supposed to restore the natural state of things, prevent ear infections, and so on -- though in my case it will make little difference with the actual hearing. Maybe I made a mistake, having it done. Anyway, I see the surgeon tomorrow for a followup, and I hope that the repair isn't detached or infected or whatnot.

SSC: Initially, i read that as "tyrranoplasty", and had visions of surgery from the late Cretaceous.

Recover swiftly, Markian.
