It's official, the whole world now believes the entire Orlando Bloom fandom consists of crazies:
I HATE KATE
By MARISA MELTZER
Read any profile of Kate Bosworth and she comes across as pretty lucky: smart (she got into Princeton but deferred admission to pursue acting), classy (she hails from blue-blood Darien, Conn.), uniquely pretty (she has two different-colored eyes), compassionate (she adopted stray dogs from Morocco) and linked to a genuine heartthrob ('Lord of the Rings' elfin stud Orlando Bloom).
And despite - well, actually because of - of all this good fortune, the 21-year-old star of the Bobby Darrin biopic, 'Beyond the Sea,' has become the source of ire for many movie fans.
First there was the killermovies.com "Orlando/Kate tracker," an online message board populated by Bloom superfans dedicated to tracking - and anticipating - the eventual demise of their much-publicized relationship.
Sample postings include: "She doesn't deserve him. He is too good for her," and the more menacing, "DIE LADY DIE!!!!!" One Bosworth-hater took it a step further and briefly created www.katebosworthdeservestodie.com , which has since been taken down.
Who are these rabid fans? One might suspect teenage girls, who make up Bloom's devoted fan base, but a sampling of teens polled about the actress revealed mostly indifference.
"She annoys me - but I'm not jealous about Orlando," says Melanie, 16. Sarah, a 16-year-old high-school student, agrees. "I don't go to her movies, unless it were really good or something. Not terribly likely."
"I don't find Kate Bosworth especially annoying, but I don't find her very interesting either."
But it's not just the girls who are turning on Kate. Male fans, for which her breakout role in the surfer-girl flick 'Blue Crush' is a guilty pleasure, are becoming critical. "I did sneak in to see 'Blue Crush' in the theatres," admits Jeremy, 28, who is a Web designer in Brooklyn. "I thought she was totally hot a few years ago, but now she looks all emaciated."
Others are even more blunt.
"Girlfriend needs to eat a sandwich. She's been looking far too skinny lately," says poster "hinshack" on the snarky pop culture Web site Fametracker, which has an entire forum devoted to Bosworth, where people can mouth off on their love or hate for the actress.
