I've been going through this phase lately where I just want to sell off all the crap I own. I hear ya. I just take everything to Goodwill and deduct it off of my taxes.

yeah, we've made an unbelievable number of trips to goodwill and the dump in the last year, trying to fit our two houses of stuff into one house, plus room for baby.

the thing about craigslist is I'm rarely successful selling anything unless it's at a fire sale price anyway.. sometimes just donating and taking the deduction does about as well. I think you have to be itemizing for this to be useful though, right?

Hmm.. we went to an accountant this year because of house buying stuff but I do believe there is a spot on the 1040 for charitable donations. You need be honest about the value though. The accountant recommended 30% of the original value. Make sure you get a receipt when you donate and write down what you donated.
