those those of 2006

One of my goals for 2006 was to read 50 books. I think I had around 17 done when I came to Toronto, afterwhich three solid weeks of unemployment and a desire to avoid the TV engendered a healthy bounty of reading ( Read more... )

dude, you have no idea how jealous i am. grad programmes in english are, among other things, infuriating when it comes to having time for fun reading. despite having devoured a healthy retinue of books this summer, i've read almost nothing course-related since the fall except for gwendolyn macewen's "the t.e. lawrence poems," which was awesome, and di brandt's "now you care." christmas vacation will be an orgy of reading, knitting, Jeopardy!, and good food.

i'm pleased to see some canlit on your list. i too read "cholera" this year & found it way less of a slog than "100 years of solitude." did you know that irving layton was nominated for the nobel prize in literature the year that g.g.m. won?

i distinctly remember resenting the fact that i couldn't enjoy regular olde books when i was a grad school. instead, i was filled with crap like "Beyond Objectivity" "Problems of Rationality" "Literal Meaning" there's only so much one can forgive!

you liked the t.e. lawrence poems! i've only read selections in a course, but i really like them. i like most of her stuff (manzini: escape artist!).

i just know that if i spend any time in the clorey household at xmas... they'll be lots and lots of trivial pursuit: canadian edition.

did you not like 100 years? let me know, because i have it here, and i plan on reading it soon, given how much i like cholera. and no, didn't know about layton, though i think they made the proper choice in g.g.m. - i've never been too impressed by layton.

knitting hoooo!

ps. my mom has not sent me that recipe. cause i don't know. perhaps she's more like me than she let's on.
