Spoilers: For Episode 2x18, Selfless, Brave and True

When the Blue Fairy turned August back into the child Pinocchio, Emma tilted her head and smiled at the adorable little boy just like everyone else did. But inside, she was churning with anger and unhappiness and…what else? Regret? No, disappointment.

Bitter disappointment.

She watched Marco hug his son, overjoyed at the third or fourth chance they had to get it right.

What about me? she thought. Why does every man I’m interested in turn out to be a louse, or a liar, or worse…a damn fairy tale character?

On the outside, Emma smiled. But inside, she cried.

Fandom: The Closer and Major Crimes

After Kyra Sedgwick left The Closer, the show’s emphasis was switched from Brenda to Sharon Raydor. Capt. Raydor wasn’t a sympathetic character in The Closer because she and Brenda were always at odds. So, I really didn’t plan on watching Major Crimes, the “sequel” to The Closer, past the first episode.

However, the rest of the squad remained the same (with the exception of one character), and even Brenda’s husband (FBI liaison Fritz Howard) appeared in four episodes of Major Crimes. The writers also have worked hard to make Sharon more likeable and accessible. They’ve given her more personality (she is acting as a sort of foster mom to Rusty, a troubled teen witness against a serial killer), and they’ve introduced Sharon’s backstory (married to a lawyer with a gambling problem, they are estranged but not divorced). Sharon’s husband has little-to-no relationship with his children, and Sharon is cautious when he starts cozying up to her foster child, Rusty.

The squad, though, is what makes Major Crimes watchable. I can’t get enough of lieutenants Flynn and Provenza and the way they continue to immerse themselves in silly predicaments. The steadfast Sanchez and Tau are the backbone of the squad, along with civilian tech expert Buzz. Buzz takes the place of the audience…he’s invested in the squad but not actually a police officer. Sharon relies on Buzz to watch over Rusty and help tutor him.

I’m glad I stayed with Major Crimes - and frankly, I really don’t miss Brenda.

EXT.  UNMARKED POLICE CAR PARKED ON RESIDENTIAL STREET - LATE AFTERNOON

Flynn and Provenza are on a stakeout, sitting in the car. Flynn has several health foods and drinks with him. Provenza picks through the bags of food.

PROVENZA
What in the hell is all of this? Goji berries?

FLYNN
Stop it. Give me that.

PROVENZA
What’s wrong with you? No sane person eats this stuff.

FLYNN
Just give it to me!

PROVENZA
Are you dying?

FLYNN
Am I what? Dying? No!

PROVENZA
Then what’s with the health crap?

FLYNN
It’s my daughter’s wedding. The stress is killing me. My ex is poisoning her against me and now she doesn’t want me there. Plus I have a department physical coming up and I’m afraid I’ll fail it.

Provenza rustles through the bags of vitamins and health foods.

PROVENZA
Flynn…it’s not the hot dogs that will kill you…it’s this stuff!

FLYNN
Will you shut up already? I’m going to…wait, is that our guy?

Provenza looks at the mugshot.

PROVENZA
That’s him. Let’s go. And Flynn?

FLYNN
Yeah?

PROVENZA
You’re the healthiest cop I know…next to Sanchez.

Flynn smiles.

FLYNN
Thanks, partner.

The car radio crackles with static. Lt. Tau’s voice comes through the speaker.

TAU
Heartwarming, guys, but our suspect’s on the move. Go get him!

“Ouch! Hey, what’s a blind guy gotta do to get you to stop leaving your shoes in the middle of the room?”

“Well, that blind guy should remember where he flings my clothing when he removes it.”

“Now you’re just blaming the victim. C’mere and kiss me, Ms. Smarty Pants.”

“You mean Ms. Smarty Pants-less.”

“Pants-less? Lemme see.”

“Ouch, Auggie! That hurt!”

“Sorry, my hands are my eyes, too, you know. They have the strength of two organs now.”

“Which two organs are those, hmm?”

“Whoa, Walker! A little warning before you grab would be nice!”

“Anything else?”

“Yeah, you could warm your hands up next time.”

“Did you ever hear the one about the jerky blind guy who never had sex ever again?”

“I don’t think I like that one.”

“Yeah, I don’t like it, either.”

“Ok, let’s try this again. C’mere and kiss me, please, Annie.”

“Much better.”

“Agreed.”

“Now let’s get ready or we’re going to be late for work.”

“Uh-oh.”

“’Uh-oh’ what?”

“Jerky blind guy feels like being late.”

“Well, I suppose it wouldn’t hurt to be late just this once.”

“Agreed.”

“Mmmmm, Auggie….”

Notes: According to a deleted scene from Eames' appearance on SVU, her ex-partner Goren is holed up in Maine writing a book about their cases. The Serbian kidnap case is from the CI episode Homo Homini Lupis.

Hey Bobby,

How’s it going up north? I bet you’ve been taking more walks than doing actual work on the book. Get your fill of lobster yet?

Had a tough case…worked with Benson and SVU. I don’t want to talk about it, but I had to tell you that Benson looked at me like I was crazy when I leaned over and got in the perp’s face during the interrogation. Is that how I looked at you the first time?

Hope to hear from you soon. Let me know if you need anything.

Hey yourself.

Sorry about the case. Yeah, you looked at me like I was crazy the first time - and the second time, and the third time…I lost count after that. :)

You’re right, I’ve been taking a lot of walks, but I *am* making progress on the manuscript. I’m in the middle of the Serbian kidnapping case. By the way, I heard back from Maggie. She agreed to let me use her real name in the book. God, she’s so brave. She graduated from her Master’s program in social work, and she’s working with teen rape victims. She asked after you, so I sent her your regards.

I haven’t actually had any lobster yet, but the blueberries in Maine are fantastic. I’ve been making blueberry and spinach smoothies every morning! Aren’t you proud of me? Just don’t ask about the blueberry pancakes and maple syrup I’ve been having for dinner.

Would you do me a favor? Could you email me a copy of the Serbian’s tattoo? I can’t find it on my laptop. Thanks.

Bobby

9. Poem
Fandom: Sherlock (BBC) - Spoilers if you haven’t seen any of it.

I write terrible poems, so I chose to write in the style of the Clerihew. This type of poem is a four-line rhyme about a famous person...it's supposed to be funny or absurd. Here are four clerihews about the main characters of the BBC version of Sherlock.

Sherlock Holmes
In the flat he roams
Without a case he is bored
Damn near out of his gourd.

Dr. Watson - John
Looks exhausted and wan
He was up all night writing his blog
About the case of the phantom dog.

Molly Hooper in the lab
Sherlock’s arse she’d like to grab
To make him jealous she dated Jim
Who knew the murderer was actually him?

Jim Moriarty is the villain
DI Lestrade would like to grill him
But he put a gun to his own head
Pulled the trigger, now he’s dead.
