I had the same problem with my ex.
i tried being the good understanding girlfriend by letting him spend time with his friend rather than being with me every night. but him coming home stumbling drunk smelling like ciggerettes and then trying to climb in my bed EVERY night was just not cutting it.

tell him you're going out and then don't come back for 24 hours. if he doesn't care, move out. or kick him out.

Of course, "I don't care" means you really do. I do know it's a big step for a guy to decide to live with someone, and he /will/ crave space, but at the same time he shouldn't have to leave the house past midnight to get it.

I'm not a good advice giver, though.
