Revolutions in the Arab world!

Well, as I live in a country with plenty of Arabic heritage and plenty of muslim inmigrants from countries such as Morocco (25% of my hometown citizens are from Morocco or descendants of Moroccan people) I'm very pleased with all the events in Tunis, Egypt and now Bahrein and Lybia (despite that some blood is being spilled ( Read more... )

Oh, absolutely. I'd also like to emphasize the way these people have been also used by our governments to scare you. If there is a lesson to be learned here is that they have more in common with us than we think.

Have you read any Goytisolo? He fascinates me as one of the very few Spaniards who has turned an erotic fascination with Arab men into a real political engagement.

I haven't read too much about him. He's at one of my "to read" lists (although I despise him for political reason). There is a more popular author who is absolutely fascined by the arab and muslim word, Antonio Gala, although he's more Barbara Cartland that a real writer.

Since they've been oppressed for so long, I hadn't thought there was much chance that their protests would end in anything but bloodshed. I'm impressed by their courage.
