Foreknowledge without Predestination

I just got the May issue of Scientific American and the cover story is "Infinite Earths in Parallel Universes Really Exist". As is usually the case with articles in this magazine, I will have to read it a few more times before I can really understand what they are saying, but what I've read so far is enough to get my mind rolling along various ( Read more... )

Perhaps you would like to join us for NaNoWriMo this year. I've found it a great vehicle for test driving interesting ideas.

Assuming such a thing as predestination exists, then being able to peek into an advanced but otherwise identical universe would of course amount to precognition. The "rub" here would be the Heisenberg Principle, however: Does peeking into the alternative universe alter its future history, or yours, or both? Heisenberg tells us that the act of peeking must have an affect on the observed reality, or else half of quantum mechanics is invalid ( ... )
